Better perks for becoming Admiral in Federation etc

A nice perk would be the ability to order a few system authority vessels to escort you when required, either on a mission or to protect you in resource areas. Or to assist vs Thargoids. This kind of perk would certainly make you feel like an Admiral with some kind of real authority.

Maybe a max of 3 ships, for 30mins each. Something like that.

But you're not an admiral. You're a guy with a token civic award.

Thats right, I still don't really get why people think they are an Admiral or even a King in game.
The CMDR is simply awarded the respect due to the title. Not the actual title itself.
Some basic perks like ship unlocks and permits is all.

But I do think that there should be a basic perk for each "rank" for the two powers as there are currently more than a few steps on the ladder that award nothing extra other than the rank itself!

As the posters above has said, it's a honorary title given to you as a thank you for helping the federal navy or the imperial navy. Still, i'm not opposed to some perks, for instance federal agent or imperial agents calling you by your "rank" or being more courteous, for instance apologizing after a scan. Some love from the two different navies would be nice too. And on the flip side if i as an admiral get scanned by a imperial navy ship i should be considered suspicious in a "you haven't done anything but we got our eyes on you" kind of way.

Also i think the rewards are lacking, i believe that the powerplay modules should be rank locked rather than locked behind powerplay rank. The monetary reward from powerplay is good enough imo. In other words we need more than just permits and ships.

I think they need to just cut out about half the ranks for each power; most ranks don't actually mean anything. You're either unlocking a ship, getting a permit, or...nothing.

Given how much time it can take to rank up, there should NEVER be a rank up where you get nothing.

Yes. As in:
'Thanks very much, you've been a useful tool. Have some medals and an honorary title, and we'll even let you purchase a cut price decommissioned Corvette with all the goodies taken out'.

All you guys saying Admiral is a token civic award, how about it not being named as such then? Surely it should be 'Federation assist level 1,2,3 etc, or something. You can't blame people for feeling they have achieved the level of Admiral, when the game tells them they did...

Annnddd.. then you end up agreeing with me anyway, okay :)

Actually you still part of the Pilot Federation which enables you to gain ranks in the Federation and the Empire at the same time. Those ranks though are not actual military ranks which would give you control or command over any military power. Access to military ships is quite enough.
I also don't like the idea of "perks" by rank progress in Elite. It would feel like levelling up in an mmorpg, which would be just wrong. Ship access and system permits are already enough in my opinion.

Elton John is a Knight. So is Rod Stewart and Maurice Gibb. None of them are expected to tax their peasants, raise levies in a time of war or deliver the Queen's justice in legal disputes.

I like this! as it would add more atmosphere to game. Especially if you are using 3rd party tools like TTS4ED, that uses Text To Spech to play back all the chat messages NPC says! (something I would really like to be an ingame option)

Presently one can obtain a Corvette or a Cutter at a much lower rank then Admiral or King; Thus considerably less grinding. Making the carrier's only available to someone that has gone the extra mile and grinded the rest of the way to the top, would give creedence to those that did. Presently there's absolutly no viable reason to go beyond the current ranks required to obtain either the Vette or Cutter. Thus why have the additional ranks at all. Tieing the carrier's to either of those highest ranks, would justify the additional grind. And a pleasent gift to those that have already done it.

You have never needede Admiral or King rank to buy these ships. It most a thing for those of us that want to complete things...

Just like people get triple/quadruple Elite titles, you only need one Elite title to unlock founders world, the rest does not really add anything... but still people like to have all the elite ranks....

I really like everything you just said. I need to go find a .gif for 'immersion' responses... [noob]

I'm hoping that at some future date ED releases a serious Destroyer class ship, and/or maybe a Carrier class ship to those that put the effort into reaching the highest rank in either or both superpowers. Gaining the two top ranks and getting nothing but a title that is pretty much useless doesn't really mesh with how the rest of the game goes does it? [blah]

The monetary reward from powerplay is good enough imo.

Ummmmm...good enough? for WHAT exactly? 50 million creds a week sounded amazing when Powerplay first debuted, but even average play can earn that in a day now; well-planned trade running can earn it in an hour--half that if you have a buddy or two willing to help with wing source missions. Even before improvements to missions, 50 mil a week in exchange for constantly running propaganda back and forth was hardly noteworthy.

To be fair, there are other reasons to partake of powerplay and 50 mil is still a nice injection of cash, but it's right up there with exploring: if you're doing it for money, you're doing yourself a disservice.

But you're not an admiral. You're a guy with a token civic award.

Has any navy in the current world awarded anybody an honourary rank of admiral?
The rank is a military rank awarded by the military.
The Empire's ranking titles I have no trouble with; it seems based on the corrupt civilian system of old. The Navy of the Empire has its rank of Admiral but, perversely, it does not warrant a place in the supposedly naval ranking system.
Yet the Federation ranking system has all its ranks based on well known military naval titles. And these are not token civic awards, they are awared by the Fed navy by doing Fed navy authorised missions.

The usual FDev mess.

Nope.
Not in the Elite universe. Token civic awards for all!! :)

While I’m not interested in ordering navy ships around I do think FD could do more to make each rank in the Fed/Imp navy more special and have suggested some kind of perk structure on a number of occasions...

Ranking up doesn’t necessarily have to turn you into a guardian of the galaxy, but the current inbox message with the odd permit to some useless system is just lame...

So overall...a +1 to your post OP....kind of. :)
