Newcomer / Intro Better ranged ship?

I'm currently in a Diamondback Explorer with all grade A for core modules with 0 engineering. No hardpoints, a cargo rack, extra fuel tanks, fuel scoop and scarab hangar. Current range is 33.33 ly.

I only use this as a taxi to get around and in and out of the bubble quickly.

Wondering if there are any ships with better range than this without engineers. Currently doing farseer for FSD upgrade.

Thank you in advance!

The Diamondback Explorer is meant to have the best un-engineered jump range of all the ships but you can improve it if you lighten your ships loadout.

Before ship transfers this was my preferred taxi and station bookmark.

If you don't mind running low on fuel here's a DBX build too.

If you've A rated all core modules, you're heavier than you need to be, thus compromising your jump range. D rated modules are lighter.

My exploration ships are almost entirely D rated to get as much range as possible; however, if it comes to fighting, I'll just submit as I'd get blown up if they fart in my general direction. Running away isn't good either as they are slow ships with D thrusters

As they don't carry cargo, though, there's nothing for the bad boys to nick anyway so submission hurts nothing but pride.

Everything is a juggling act. I try to have my ships equipped for a specific tasks rather than Jack's of all trades.

Plus it's a bit of a grind but I can recommend putting the work in to get the Guardian FSD booster. You basically visit one system (admittedly a fair way away), drive around some ruins collecting things, and gain an item at the end which you take to a tech broker at a high tech station. Then you can unlock the Guardian FSD booster, available to buy for as many ships as you like. The different class of them gives you differing levels of flat boost to your FSD range. I run them in almost all my ships. For instance, a Class 5 FSD booster gives you around 10ly extra on your jump range. My Asp Scout is hitting over 60ly. It is engineered, but much of my boost comes from D rated modules (other than the FSD) and the FSD booster. So as a one-off hit of grind it makes a massive difference to almost all other game activities. Tourist missions, supply mission, exploration... it's all easier once you have done the unlock. Food for thought!

Thanks I will try that.

Looks like I have an adventure to do.

dbx has the best jumprange afaik, you can get it up to 45ly without engineering but you would need a fsd booster.
engineer it, put in the right modules and it goes up to 65ly

Nope, not without Engineering.

But, you can unlock Guardian FSD Booster - you unlock it once, then you can buy it like any other module.
It will add a flat increase to jump range - 10.5 ly for size 5, 9.3 ly for size 4, 7.8 ly for size 3 - for the price of occupying an internal slot.

Really useful for any ship.
Guide to unlock here (spoilers ofc)
