Between system jump times...

Hi All

Before I consider it a bug for 2.2, I thought I'd ask the community if anybody else has noticed a significant increase in time that it now takes to "jump" from system to system.

In general I am enjoying the 2.2 release and this includes the new Witch\Hyper Space (lets not go there...) graphics, but I have noticed that the time spent in this state has increased. I timed a number of jumps last night and on average it took 50 seconds from the end of the count down (00:00) through to the sun appearing outside the cockpit. The fastest jump was 45 secs and the longest was 1 min 05 secs. Pre 2.2 I was probably experiencing ~20 sec average jump times. I am on 100 Mbps fibre...
So my questions are:
Has anybody else noticed an increase in jump times?
Is the jump times a result of the new graphics?

Normally I wouldn't mention something like this but if this is "by design" it will definitely impact in game roles such as exploration and long range haulage missions....eg, my modded Python could pre 2.2 do a Sothis return run in ~22 jumps taking approx 23 mins ....factor in the increased jump time and we are probably looking at >33 mins. I know it might not seem like much, but when your a part-time player with limited time every min is precious.

Glad I'm not alone in thinking this, jump time has pretty much doubled. Might be because they improved the graphics maybe.

jump time has gone up I agree, I don't claim to understand the reason why. I guess graphic animation of the star or instancing would be the likely causes.

Yes ditto here. It was the first thing I noticed. The graphics have changed (nice) and the dropout transition at destination star is a lot smoother, but overall the jump time has increased around 30-40% as a best guess IMHO.

I don't think I'm seeing any increase.

I'm currently doing a lot of jumping and it always seems to finish around when I expect it.

Just timed a few, from end of the red countdown to appearing in the next system.

- 24 secs
- 27 secs
- 24 secs
- 24 secs
- 23 secs

I am in the UK, I am in open, on fibre, have a 6700k cpu and 1080gpu.

I have done a *lot* of jumps in the last few hours, I don't think any have stood out as being particularly slow, I am sure I would have noticed a 45 second one if I'd encountered one.

I noticed this during the beta and figured perhaps that was why. In earlier betas I noticed it took longer to jump outside the bubble than usual. But it seems to have carried over to live.

Times are all over the place, but most of my jumps today were around 20 to 25 seconds; some took so long I thought the game had kicked me out though.

Those are some good jump times, in the range of what I was getting pre 2.2. to add to the mystery I'm in NZ, but again my connection speed is pretty sharp and it (jump times) has only changed since 2.2. I also can't remember what my jump times were like during beta - I unfortunately didn't get much beta in game time.

Thanks to the new update it seems some new and returning players try 2.2 out so everything where a comunication with the servers is needed needs a bit more time.
Be it Hyperjumping, Commodities market loading or readying the mission board.

I am seeing a rather large increase per jump and it was one of the first things i noticed.

Sure it looks prettier but when travelling long distances doing passenger missions for example it is not ideal.

Hopefully it gets ironed out as the 2.2 dust settles.

I agree, hopefully it`s due to the increased server activity post-update and will speed up when things settle down.

I was also hoping that's the explanation. If not it will have a major impact onthe time taken for long distance trips. I noticed it right away because I'm so used to how much of the audio loop plays between a jump.

Yes.

Questioned (bug reported) in beta, but never got a response other than "we'll check it out". And it has carried over to live (despite some adamantly claiming it was just a beta server issue).

The actual time in witch space is about 25 seconds (it was 15 in 2.1), and for me, from starting the FSD charge to arriving at the new star is 45 - 50 seconds, every time.

Ten seconds isn't much, it's not exactly game breaking, but frankly, sitting watching a pretty animation for the best part of a minute every single time you want to go to a different system seems to be a bit of an unnecessary time sink. Not like one can do much else in that time.

Apparently it's great for immersion though... :)

For me, jump times in 2.1 were 16±2 seconds. Now they are 25±5 seconds.

The most basic requirement of a computer game is that it requires interaction from the player. Staring at a loading screen for forty seconds, over and over again while traveling, is extremely boring.

It takes a few seconds for the destination star to appear on the loading screen; perhaps the additional time is loading shaders or whatever for that star?

I would much rather that Frontier got rid of the hyperspace animation entirely if it saved even half a second from the jump time.

From the end of the red countdown to arrival in the new system? So that's just the time viewing the witchspace animation? 25 seconds of it is about 10 seconds longer than it used to be. As I said, the audio is what makes it obvious, I know exactly how much of it I usually hear and I start to twitch about three seconds after that because it usually means it's sunday and I could be in for a random one minute jump followed by being kicked by the server.

For me, jump times in 2.1 were 16±2 seconds. Now they are 25±5 seconds.

Yeah, that's what I was getting too.
