Beware: Dying on foot in an Odyssey Conflict Zone instantly fails any passenger missions you have active.

Ran into the same issue today. Was on my way from Colonia to the Bubble, decided to stack up on some passenger missions and wait for a player FC. In the meantime, since my ship was in use (storing passengers), why not have some fun and try some Odyssey missions, using Apex Interstellar to route me around?

Turns out dying on-foot causes this to happen... and I have a fine... and a bounty... and notoriety... and Colonia only has 1 tourism station...

Are you kidding me? And the issue is "expired"? Really?

And yes, the passengers said my ship was "destroyed". It wasn't. Next time, I'll just log off after safely docking my ship in the FC and do something actually productive with my time, instead of wasting it with Odyssey...

Edit: I have submitted a new issue: https://issues.frontierstore.net/issue-detail/64986

Edit edit: The issue tracker isn't working.

The (amusing) answer is this 👇

"Your passengers realised you're a terrible shot and decided not to continue their journey with you"

Basically, if you pick passenger missions you should do those missions - stopping for a quick smack in a ground CZ is not advisable (especially if you know you cant chain 10+ High CZ without dying) nor run missions if you cant do them without getting fines, bounties, notoriety NOR dying in the process - some passengers are rather sensitive to the deeds done by their hired pilot
But some CMDRs like to live on the edge 🤷‍♂️

Yeah, rationally you'd assume that on-foot stuff would be completely separate from whatever happens to your ship. I think they just forgot to set a flag somewhere correctly.

But sadly, Odyssey content has very much gone on the back burner of late, so don't expect this bug to get fixed any time soon. Sorry for your loss, though! I feel your pain.

Yeah, I think it's the whole "ship = player" leftover code somewhere in there. Don't worry, I managed to somewhat stock back up on my missions (turns out my notoriety expired very quickly since I only killed a few people on-foot) but it's crazy how these kinds of bugs are still in the game and not tracked.

The problem is not "the player=ship". The problem is the social sim is so bad that passengers are happy to hang around while the pilot decides to go "shoot some guys". It's stuff like this that makes this game shallow and un-credible.

Seriously, imagine if you're on a plane and the pilot decides to sidetrack to a warzone to do some dodgy crap. That's the plot of a bad 80's action comedy. Which is the level of ED unfortunately.

Hey at least we're getting more powerplay. 🤷‍♂️

There is a time limit. As long as you are completing the mission within that time limit, I don't see it that it matters what the pilot does. After all, it's not like pilots in real life stay 100% focused on flying all the time.

Hey, I was giving them a top 1% liner experience! I opened the pools, shops, fake beaches and everything.

Plus we were waiting for a player FC to set off. They had the choice to explore the FC if they wanted to :p
