Beware of Capital Ship in Sol

I decided to visit Sol's various POI and dropped into the Capital Ship. As I approached it, without warning a whole swarm of ships came to attack me without any warning :mad:

There's no bounty on me and I didn't deploy weapons. Rebuy cost was 3.2 mil but lost plenty of chartographics after returning from Guardian site.

No wonder no one visits Sol anymore!

I believe there should be a proximity warning on the in game chat, I had a similar experience a while back when I was fresh faced to the game with the naive assumption that they'd not start shooting an innocent guy with weapons retracted.... I was wrong, they don't like anyone getting close to their personal space. :p

Oh, pretty cool actually. It wasn't always like that. Few times I've visited capital ships and got the warning to stay away, got closer... and they did nothing.

Yea I know. When I last visited a capital ship maybe pre-2.4 or even in 2.4, I could fly close and inside their cavities.

So do all capital ships or just the one in Sol now attack without warning when you get too close in 3.0 or was this happening in 2.4?

So basically you’re saying don’t go to Sol? I just got the permit yesterday and was thinking of going there tonight.

That Wikia section may need to be updated ... however, if it's a bug, then I shall be grateful if FDev can refund me the chartographics lost. I'm not too concern about CRs except needed the charts to grind my Explorer rank and rep with some minor factions (praying to FDev).

Carto is the one thing FDEV can’t refund.

Try driving up to a modern-day aircraft carrier in a Zodiac and see what happens...

That's probably a bug. Every time I have approached a capital ship outside of a USS spawn or Conflict Zone spawn it has fired at me. The point Bryan K was making is that is modern Military SOP to treat an unaffiliated and unknown approaching craft as hostile and to utilize deadly force. There for the same would apply in ED.

And that behavior made no sense, and has now been corrected to more accurately reflect security around high-value military assets. They should gun you down for getting near docked capitol ships too, frankly.

The capital ship in Sol is a permanent POI like ones in other systems - see below. Of course capital ships spawned in USS and CZ will be hostile but I was killed by a permanent POI one in Sol.

Doesn't matter if its a permanent POI, approach a capital military ship and they will fire upon you, you are not a member of their military. I was stating that it was a bug before "when they didn't shoot at you".

Yeah, that capital ship is basically Spaceforce One... But you should get a proximity warning. When I got my Sol permit back then I also visited Earth and almost got shot. :D
The rest of the system is as safe as it gets. And very beautiful in my opinion.

Concerning lore you should stop thinking of Earth as the still-home of humanity. It's the origin of humanity, but after all these centuries most people in the galaxy only know it as Federal HQ. I also only got the permit because of player nostalgia I fear. I don't like the Feds. I also don't like the Imperials, but they don't sit on Earth. :D
