Hello Commanders,

As we announced last week, the new Thargoid Incursion state will be coming with Beyond - Chapter Four. I'll be joined by Lead Designer Adam Bourke-Waite to talk a little bit about the Background Simulation, the new Incursion state and the introduction of the new Thargoid Conflict Zones.

Livestream details

  • Topic - Thargoid Conflict Zones
  • Date – 22 November 2018
  • Time – 19:00 (UTC)

See you there!

I’d like to know about any warning factions receive prior to Thargoid Incursion state. Will the state have a “pending” notification? Will it be observed via the eagle eye system as the previous systems have? Will squadrons receive clear warning that their system is under threat of incursion with sufficient time to fight off the bugs before their stations are damaged and take millions of tons and thousands of person-hours to repair?

If you could elaborate on how the expansion mechanics will work, that would be excellent! Many of us are wondering what impact Investment, Happiness, and Influence might precisely have on expansions and whether the launch system for the expansion is announced when the expansion becomes pending (as it is now) or if the destination is determined at the end of the expansion state. I look forward to seeing the stream!

Will these incursions still be restricted only to systems that have an ammonia world?
If so this could be very interesting as to whether these systems are worth the risk of controlling if these incursions are a lot more widespread than they are at the moment.

Excellent stuff.

BGS testing in the beta showed some unexpected results - leading some (including myself) to theorise that the new cz/war mechanics were not fully plugged in. Now this is probably a lack of understanding on our part, so it would be very helpful to have some further clarity on how it is intended to operate (so we can test properly once its out in the wild). Of particular interest are the following:

How does influence operate during the conflict period? Is it frozen completely or is there a background counter which applies all influence changes upon conclusion?
What actions are intended to be effective to win the daily conflict battle?
What actions are intended to be influence effective during the conflict (if any)?

We dont need to expose the full workings of the black box, but i do think we need a little bit more to be able to even test properly.

Thanks in advance.

I'm not so much looking forward to getting back home from this overseas trip but I will be looking forward to booting up ED:H Chapter 4 when I do get home. All the changes and new bells and whistles are the goods.

Thanks FD people.....

o7!

Will the Thargoids execute a proper campaign to conquer the bubble or a part of it? Or will systems be targeted when they satisfy certain conditions like the BGS does when it sets up a War or Civil War? Or will it be random?

What happens if a system is abandoned and left to the Thargoids? Will the Thatgoids transform it into a Hive?

Will the mysteries surrounding the Thargoids about where they come from, what they want, how they live, etc. get a new chapter as well?
