I have mixed feelings on this one. I'm definitely excited because it still has that offbeat crazy aesthetics, and some of the elements look fun. However, they've strayed so far from what original game was it kinda has to be judged on it's own merit.
Personally, I'm happy they are straying so far off the first game's formula. Even if they were to transport that formula 1:1 to the sequel, I feel that it'd end up underwhelming (edit: and outrdated) for me. Maybe great as a linear experience, e.g. similar to the recent Naughty Dog games, but not as an adventure game for exploring.
The first game's template in terms of game mechanics by today's standard is also very outdated. As a reminder, the first game was separated roughtly to a 50/50 ratio between linear and individually isolated corridor/room sequences and some limited free roaming and exploration in very few interconnected sectors. Vehicle and on foot traversal happened in separated areas as well.
It looks like they're expanding the scope significantly from that into a massive open world project. If it turns out to be good, that'll be right up my alley. But until then, I remain somewhat sceptical, since it could just as well turn out to be a boring open world collectaton or grindfest. I'd really love another open world action adventure similar in quality to Zelda Breath of the Wild/Horizon Zero Dawn though. In Space. And unlike the Zelda series in general, BG&E 1 is much more story driven, which BG&E 2 seems to be as well. Overall a nice change and distinguishing "feature".
