BEYOND > Star chart, mining and exploring scans = something usefull

I just stumbled over an old planetary book mark: it had Tin, Cadmium and Ruthi-something (no not roofies).

I took the time to stockpile some much needed rares, and then I noticed I had not done a detailed scan of all the planets.
And a couple of them had potentially higher yield over the one I had bookmarked.

Flicking too and from the different planets and quickly reading over their "drop" percentage of materials got, a little cumbersome.
After all the system map wasn't really designed with material filtering in mind.

But that is where this is going.

Filtering the Galaxy maps AND system maps for specific materials and organising by higher percentages.
Which of course factors into what you have scanned and what scan data you have bought (or acquired through permit unlocks or Mission Board reward).

Scans for every conviable type of material (leaving literally no stone uncovered).
Or a quicker scans for a certain specific material but you might miss the motherload in the process.

I still to this day use the logic that the "good stuff" the rares, can be found in trenches and craters, and surely if a crater has as trench (exposing the heavier materials underneath).
But being able to scan the an asteroid field or planetary body for a specific material and WHERE to find it is how to make mining and prospecting-exploration a bit more interesting.

Showing the material percentages for asteroid rings and belts, on a scan, is something that is definitely needed.

I doubt that we'll ever get filtering or sorting in the galaxy map though. You are going to have to stick with 3rd party tools for this.

Clues of where to look for higher chances of various materials would be great.

You can export material composition from Eddiscovery. I've made a few spreadsheets of systems local to where ever I am currently based. Then I filter the planets for highest percentages etc. You still have to go down to the planet and actually find the materials but you could at least then record your location and return to it again although you will only get the chance of a material from the same scarcity group.

Of course you will need another third party app if you want to navigate easily to the same spot.

You know, when I try and explain to other people why I play Elite I'm often surprised that they don't get it.

:)

I think the discussion must be had if beyond is to ramp up some love to explorers and miners.

Sure we can talk about feelings like hitting the mother load, but how does that translate to in game activities and tools.

I'm impressed by third party apps but many I time I feel like they exist solely because the need exists because the game didn't provide and cater.
