BGS Beta Testing 101 versus an Advanced Version

Greetings,

It used to be say a boom state in the appropriate system, find the HGEs and the player gets what they were looking for. Now the HGEs are faction specific within the systems. Game wise less possibility of finding the HGEs one wants increasing the RNG roll maybe ten fold.

My game (versus immersion) solutions? If I need encoded mats I farm at the Jameson's crash site then trade for what I need. 30 minutes. Manufactured mats I farm Imperial Shielding in Empire systems then trade. 30 minutes. Dav's Hope (there are many more like it) fills up a lot of mat storage and Robigo/Sothis runs have a lot of nice missions with grade 5 mats and still make millions of credits. Raw mats I'm totally happy firing probes at a planet with lots of POIs then zipping around in my SRV. It breaks up the grind.

Maybe this more detailed BGS adds to the immersion as two factions at war don't effect the other five factions in a system like previously. But it becomes much more difficult to change a system status. Players who like supporting a faction find it a lot harder to make a real difference. The good news is that it is much more difficult for players to lock down a system just for fun. Maybe that was Frontier's intention while also looking to promote Open play and Multi-Crew. Who knows.

Then Frontier never tells us a lot with a change. Being positive I hope maybe they added something "cool" and the players have to figure it out. If players have figured this out they are not telling. Other times maybe it is a competitive gaming business and they don't want to say anything. Worse case they added something thinking it was awesome but after going live they have a can full of worms to fix as well as issues with other parts of the game that were working before the update.

Personally with this major BGS update the Beta testing should have been a lot longer and separate. After Beta testing release what seems to work live but keep the BGS for another month or more so players can test, respond, make adjustments and then go live. Some updates work great in Beta. Others not so much.

For now it seems (just an emotional guess) that the BGS players are not all that happy as well as the other players just looking for HGEs. Personally I went for computer game play focus versus immersion play to resolve issues. Are we going backwards?

Not to worry. I just purchased a lottery ticket for 635 million dollars (USA) if I win. Then I'll straighten all this out buying 51 percent of Frontier stock and also make "Elite: the Movie" at Pinewood Studios. I'll hire dedicated Elite players to fill in the background non-speaking parts. :)

Regards
