Bgs expansion - how do l help it happen, the system we think it will be ?

We're pending.
It only has 5 factions, it's within 15ly and we've never retreated from there. It has lots of goodies we want so..
How can we ensure we land that system?
I was thinking of smuggling, or selling stolen stuff to one of its black markets.
To lower the control factions inf.
Is this a good idea?
Any suggestions welcome..

You'll land in the nearest system that has an open slot. The influence state of the factions in that system is irrelevant.
Once you get there just boost your influence the normal way.

Kk but there's another system that fits the same criteria but we don't want that one cos it doesn't have the illegal stufz we thrive on. Whereas the one we do want does. So how can we ensure we get the one we want?

If there is a closer candidate (fewer than 7 factions, never been present before), the only way to avoid it is to fill it up with another faction before your own expansion fires. So you'd need to find some other faction closest to that system and make them expand first, for all systems closer than your target. Unless you need to get to your destination quickly or have need of precise expansion plotting it may be simplest to just expand multiple times to fill those empty slots yourself.

But if the closest system with fewer than 7 factions is the one you want, you should end up there first.

Trouble is we have a huge very active pmf nearby. Last time we stepped on their toes they sent us into the stone age
