BGS query - influence and pending war state

o7 cmdrs.

Noob to the forum, no longer a noob to the game.

I'm working a system and my faction's influence now matches the faction above (joint 5th place) bringing about a pending war state. Whilst war is pending, if I continued raising influence to overtake another two or three factions, will my eventual war opponent still be the first faction I overtook or would my opponent simply be determined by the most recent faction overtaken at the time of the server tick that put the pending war into active?

I've read several long pieces describing how BGS works but have not found enough detail to answer this query.

Thanks in advance.

It will be the faction you were locked into war with (i.e. the first faction you matched with). You can use the time before the war begins to push your influence higher giving you a head start once the conflict begins. it makes no difference how many other factions you overtake in the meantime. this will just help you in the future when you come out of the war state since you will not need to fight those below you as you move up to take control of the system.

So I could potentially skip wars with the third and fourth factions if I get influence high enough before the pending war starts? Do I get an influence kick from winning the war through combat bonds? Theoretically I could shoot to the top if I win the war...

during the war, you will also push your influence higher through the combat bonds.

So theoretically you could shoot to the top.

If you do - you need to then push your influence to over 60% to spark a competition with the system controlling faction, whether that is a war/ election depends on the different government types.

Pending conflict is a good time to increase your faction as missions still work.
You can skip ahead of other factions, which is not always a good thing as they may have assets you want.
When the war starts, only combat bonds and bounties for your faction will help. You only swap influence with the faction you are at war with until they are down to 1%, after that you get it from everyone else.
