BGS(?) Question?

So I do, from time to time, like to change things up and run some of the higher paying cargo missions found here and there. Of course, one of the things I have to do is 'get in good' with the locals so the missions pay better, and there are more of them.

So my question is, if I become friendly with some factions in a half-dozen systems or so, does this affect the background sim? TIA.

That's the influence graph from a lost little system named Bavarigga, location of a Buckyball race from August 29th to September 6th 2020. With the main objective to bring supplies of the various rare beers in the game to that little oputpost they have there. What you see in the above graph is the result of 12 CMDRs delivering 1328 tons (at least that's what they admitted to...) of rare beers to Shaver Stop in Bavarigga.

But it all depends on the background noise. In a small, non-player-controlled system, you may see something like above. In a large (i.e. high traffic) system with one (or even more) player groups trying to manage the system state, you might perhaps notice a small bump...

It depends how you do it, but generally yes.

Most things which give you reputation (positive or negative!) with a faction will also in some way affect that faction's position in the system.
There are ways to change reputation without affecting the faction's position, though - handing in their bounties or combat bonds in a system they aren't present in is a fairly easy example, and exobiology sales don't seem to have any effect at all.
