BGS: remove lockdown state

IME System Defence Force are the ones that interdict then just fly away, I agree they should do something even if it's just warn you there is a war in the system, they are looking for insurgents & to be careful or whatever. I was talking about the Authority ships that show up if you have report crimes on, and fly around station entrances.

They could do more, but I don't think the lack of a KWS is a bug.

Hehe, it's an acklowledged Bug, from >1.5 years ago ;)
(back then, Defense Force ships even lacked the FSDI, meaning they were aimlessly "buzzing" the Players they were scripted to interdict... funny to look at but useless. The "fix" gave them the FSDI, but the KWS was taken from them - rendering them useless once again)

These exist. The are called missions :p. The mission screens are not bad about describing the effects. For instance, Kill pirate missions reduce lockdown (if I recall correctly).
I think it's "assassinate terrorist" that you're thinking of there. The state effects can be a bit inconsistent though - bringing a faction beer has three different effects depending on who asked you to bring it and whether they're paying you, for instance - and are not always obvious up-front.

I'm collecting a list of missions and their influence/rep/state effects at https://cdb.sotl.org.uk/missions - still missing lots of the rarer and criminal sub-types if anyone knows them.

Problem is not everyone is interested. Many (filthy) casuals are interested in the cash alone and are not bothered by the BGS effects.

Mission board is closed during lockdown. Nice try though :) (I know, only in specific systems, 1 station etc.pp)

lockdown is an interesting and usefull tool playing the BGS. it can be used both to hurt and to save a factions, it comes with severe drawbacks and strength.

it's one of the better designed states imho.

the only problem i see is community goals happening at a station in lockdown.

Just a thought but maybe introduce heightened security at CG sites. Bump up the security presence and, in CGs like this where the Feds are sponsoring it, park a capital ship near the station. Maybe it's overkill but with the current state of the galaxy and what's at stake for the feds here, it makes sense. Don't remove the lockdown status but make it more difficult for groups to force a lockdown.

Same goes for UA bombing CG's, increase the likelihood of security scans and make items like UAs or other unknowns a kill on site offense. This creates another hoop for the people protesting while attempting to level the playing field a little for those trying to complete the CGs.

Not a bad thought on the surface, but that would actually increase the chances of lockdown. When system sec interdicts you, they're crunchy and just beg to be chomped.

A capital ship is an enticing target.

No its not. Using it right now. There is a server issue making it hard, but its not closed.

Our experience is that the mission board is open during lockdown, but only for the cashing of missions from other locations. It consistently shows 0/0 available missions for each faction.

Missions are available for the locked down faction in stations owned by other factions.

Thing is, this particular CG pair should be basically immune to both Lockdown and UA bombing - the trade CG has meta-alloys as a desired good which would quickly cancel out UAs, and the bounty hunting CG will bring in billions of bounties to cancel all but the most coordinated efforts at inducing Lockdown. No special action required.

Except, of course, that the faction hosting the CG was already entering Lockdown when the CG started, so the protection it would have got from the CG itself is too late. That's either just really bad timing or a smart BGS-playing group guessing that there might be a Pleiades CG this week and preparing a Lockdown ready for it.

I guess I'm misunderstanding where the skirmishes with system security occur; is it in supercruise throughout the system or in the vicinity of the station? I've not done a CG in a while and never experienced a lockdown at one.

In my post I assumed that a majority of the combat with security was taking place around the station. I want it to be more difficult but not impossible to trigger a lockdown. If the combat does in fact occur near the station, park a cap ship between 3-7km of the door and bump up the presence of security ships there. Make the 7km zone around the station a partial checkpoint where scans are more frequent and either the station or cap ship can reign fire on would be attackers. Surely a well organized group could easily handle the heat; force people to work together to lockdown rather than lone wolves easily achieving the status in solo or PGs.

If the faction owns the system, killing any clean ship adds to lockdown (except those of a different faction immediately guarding a station). It can be sys sec, owning faction or even the opposing faction. Generally, the CGs are done with the system owner.

As for the cap ship, a single wing of vipers can run it off.

Thanks for clarifying. Sounds like my idea is a bit of overkill now that I know that!
