Hardware & Technical Big... HUGE monitor questions...

So.. I have a Samsung 144hz QLED 24 inch that appears to be heading for a premature death. After a cold start the screen just goes nuts, eventually settling to normal after maybe 5 or 10 mins. Samsung wont fix it, offering me a ridiculous 137 quid "deprecated refund". Pffft.

Anyway, I want a new screen. I am not flush with coin, so I am looking for frugality... The big question is.. 27 inch or higher, what's more important... refresh rate or pixels?

If I was a king, clearly I'd have both...but I'm not. 1440 is also pushing my limits with a 144hz refresh, but I could probably get either a 60hz 1440 OR a 120-144hz 1080.

What do you guys think? I'm budgeting for somewhere near 200 UK notes, and this black Friday thing seems to be throwing out some interesting deals.

Pixels or refresh?

Edit:it would help if I gave pc specs huh... Ok, gtx 1080, 4790k i7. There.

Well, you've gotten used to 144Hz, so I reckon 60Hz may feel awkward to you.
If that isn't an issue, go for 60Hz / 1440p.

You see, this is my issue.. I love 144, it's sublime. But I wonder at a larger screen size i might notice the pixels more...

I wouldn't worry about pixels in your case then, as jump from 24" to 27"/28" isn't that big.

My monitor is about 2½-3½ feet from my eyes (depending on how I sit on my chair), and to me 32" 1080p looked great. I say 'looked great' as I upgraded to a 43" 4k screen some time ago.

If you can push the pixels, I'd go for refresh rate.

If you can live with 60Hz - which is what the majority of my screens run at, and I'm quite happy with that - then there are some frankly ridiculous large screen 1080p TV's available for not much cash these days, older models the retailers want rid of.

Yeah..... I think I'm going to look for a larger 144hz screen - hell I even saw a 240, although I don't think there's much point... I'd need something like a 1080ti overclocked to hell to achieve anything like that :D

My dilemma was similar(ish). I had a 23" 1080p 60hz screen I wanted to upgrade to 1440p because 1080p felt pixelated, that left me with the following options:

Buy a 144hz TN panel monitor:
Pros:
High refresh rate - Even though I don't play fast paced games (Elite runs in VR), I certainly see the appeal
Cons:
TN panel - Especially cheaper Dell 144hz monitors are known for color banding which I hate immensely
Price - 144hz and 1440p is taxing, so even with a 1080ti, G-Sync is almost mandatory to avoid dips

60-75hz IPS panel
Pros:
IPS panel - Better colors and overall better image quality
Price - At 60-75 hz there is no need for G-Sync, with 1080ti I can play all games maxed out for years to come
Cons:
Well, lower refresh rate

At the end the IPS option cost me much less than half of any 144hz G-Sync monitor. And 75hz is definitely sweter than 60hz.
