Big (innocent) mistake

I'm an 80% bounty hunter, 20% explorer and I hardly ever do missions.

When I heard about the FSD booster Guardian thing, I decided to go do the mission to help out my long range ship.

While I was there doing the mission, I happened to pick up 4 Alien Artifacts (having absolutely no idea what their impact was).

I came back with all the stuff I needed to a Tech Station (Shinrarta Dezhra) except for the 8 HN Shock Mounts. This station had those, so to make room I sold the 4 Ancient Artifacts to the station....again, having no idea of the impact

Once I sold them, the available HN Shock Mounts were not available any longer, which I found odd. I looked up another place on inara.cz about who was selling the HN Shock Mounts on a planet, so hopped over to there yet they didn't have them at all either, which started worrying me. That's when I started reading more and seeing how horrible my decision was to get rid of them at Shinrarta.

Have I done irreparable damage to myself and my reputation?
Have I done irreparable damage to the Tech Station?

Is there any chance at all I will be able to find a station that will sell me the 8 HN Shock mounts?

I guarantee it was an honest mistake, but I have no idea what the long term ramifications of this mistake is.

Your consience is clear, commander. The lockdown effect of Ancient Artefacts has been nullified by FD (there was an official post about a month ago). The HN Shock Mounts maybe disappeared because the data was old on Inara.

To find commodities, I use https://eddb.io/trade/commodity

I think you're confusing Guardian Artefacts with what was formerly known as "Unknown Artefacts" and is now called "Thargoid Probes". And believe you me, if you had Thargoid Probes in your hold all the way from the Guardian ruins back to the bubble without having taken some special precautions, you would have noticed :D (and, incidentally, have been unable to sell them anywhere except on a Black Market).

Regarding the HN shock mounts, all I can do is direct you towards eddb. If they have disappeared from the place you wanted to buy them from, then perhaps because this place is mentioned in one of the three more popular guides on how to get the FSD boosters - and people have been doing that a lot lately, in preparation for DW2. Close to 10,000 players, at least half of which want to upgrade their ships with Guardian Boosters during the last week, will have some influence on the market.

Oh, right - "UA bombing" has been removed by FD. selling UAs/TPs now has no effect any more.

You are also a bit confused :) Unknown Artefacts became Thargoid Sensors (not Probes). They are now not illegal, and can be sold on the open commodities market. The rarer Thargoid Probes (previously Unknown Probes) are also now not illegal.

And neither they nor the Guardian Artefacts affect availability of other items in markets (AFAIK), though it makes a good yarn ;)

I thought HN Shock Mounts were mission reward only, but it's so hard to keep track of all the theorycrafting with the changes, I've lost the ball.

Thanks for all your helpful and calming words. I went to bed last night thinking I had screwed up royally.

After my broken night's sleep, I woke up and instead of using inara, I used eddb and located a station close by and there they were.....my 8 HN Shock Mounts.

Took them over to the Tech trader and unlocked the Guardian FDS booster. Flew the booster back to my home system and installed her in my exploration Anaconda.

She's up to 69.5 LY and ready for Distant Worlds 2.

Thanks everyone......a story with a happy ending.

Yeah, that's going to be amazing if something unexpected doesn't happen over the next 6-12 months, which it always does.

Question for you seasoned explorers.....I'm pretty set on taking a fighter hangar so I can fly in canyons and mess around.

Think I should sacrifice 3.5 LY for a 2nd bay and more fighters, or do you think 1 bay and 6 fighters would last throughout the entire trip? Just don't know if they crash or die frequently on these long expeditions.

You doing DW2?

Off topic, but you should give Assassination Missions a swing. I used to be a full time bounty hunter until I discovered Assassinations are a lot more profitable, and also fun. Can also get g5 Encoded Mats.

Yes, I'm doing DW2....it leaves Sunday on my birthday. Thought it was a sign that I should come along for the expedition. So what does everyone think? 1 hangay bay good enough? 2 hangar bays is overkill? I'm going back and forth.

Yeah, I'm not hurting for money at all....I'm probably at 2.5 billion in total assets. Been grinding to get my Elite Combat status....I think I'm at 34% toward getting it on the last level. That's why I like high combat RES sites.

I've also spent the last few weeks doing the new mining, and have to say I really liked that....those Opal and Low Temperature core asteroids are fun to blow up, and they were quite profitable as well.

I think it would be worth taking two, as long as your jump range stays above 33.40ly.

If you take two, then you can have two different types of fighter I believe. Will add some variation of your canyon running.
