big performance hit with 2.1 on vive

I'm getting a lot of judder now in places that were smooth before the update. It's OK flying around, but planetside is juddery as are inside starports. Haven't seen it this bad in ages since DK2 beta. On the plus side it seems like there is less aliasing.

There are many less graphics options than before unfortunately. You used to be able to change graphics quality for planet surface separately, change view distance, other stuff, but I don't see it - it's just a catch-all ultra, high, med, or low...[sour]

Maybe your graphics settings were reset during the upgrade.
Try using the VR Low or VR High presets as a start point, then change one by one until it's best for your PC. I suggest not to touch the shadows or occlusion settings as they seem to be very touchy with Vive. Supersampling and anti-aliasing also are very demanding on the graphics card so if you don't have a top end card better stay away from those too. All settings are still available, you just have to click on the plus sign to unfold them ;)

I'm getting a bit more judder now. I have a hunch that the improvements that I and others have seen post 2.1 to graphics quality are due to increasing some of the settings in the VR graphics presets.

I noticed some judder but the details are a lot worse than before. You can actually see the planet updating in big squares as you fly across it. I reset my settings to VR High for 2.1, but there are no sub-settings any more to set anything like supersampling, terrain etc. Unless I'm missing something?

Those settings are still there, click the + to expand the options :)

Ah!, I had to set a button for Nested Toggle

Just found the 3D separation option. Makes absolutely zero difference on the Vive. What's the point of an option that does nothing?

I believe 3D separation only works for monitors or things like google cardboard. it won't effect HMD's like the Rift or Vive

I had very regular juddering on 2.1. Just got my vive, never tried an earlier version. The juddering and skipped frames didn't go away with any reduction in quality either. Running on a GTX970 and i5 4690k.

My desktop monitor was running at 1920x1080 144hz and when I switched it to 60hz the juddering completely went away.

So settings you changed for your desktop monitor while using the Vive increased performance on the Vive itself? I just want to make sure I am reading you correctly.

That's exactly right. I have no idea why. I thought it might be possible that the desktop refresh rate may affect the vive performance only because the vive output is being shown on the monitor as well. Using Direct mode on the vive with display mirroring. I don't know if it's possible to turn off the display mirroring.

EDIT: just tried relaunching with everything the same and am now getting the juddering again. It's pervasive no matter what I'm doing in game. About 2 skips/judders per second with no real variability. No clue why it worked the once and now doesn't.
