Big Ship Blues

The addition of the Advanced Docking computer and Supercruise assist is nice, but I would prefer they be added as two slots that are locked to that module on all ships, rather than 1 or 2 size1s added depending on ship. I don't need a docking computer on the AspX, it's relatively small. But would much prefer both modules on a large ship like the Type-9 or Type-10, both of which come really close to bumping the walls on the way in.

so let me see if I understand this correctly, you want to make two slots that only fit said modules, much like the Planetary Approach Suite.

by that logic, why bother making them modules at all? Why not just add them to the ships core functions and call it a day.

The Planetary Approach Suite is a special case, as you need Horizons for that.
And why not allow someone good enough at landing to use the space otherwise. Personally I use the docking computer in my medium ships as I use the time for other things in game (like planning the next step of my flight) or out of it (getting tea).

They didn't have make it a module though.
I mean, I don't need my clients to install a special module on their PC when they upgrade their accounts to gain access to the advanced features. :p

But If I want to add parking assist or lane-keeping to a car, I'd sure as heck need some hardware as well as the software patch

Not if it's Fly-by-Wire which is what our ships run on. Fly by wire just needs software to send commands to the preexisting control inputs and accept input from sensors.

I wish people would stop comparing cars to space ships, it's apples and oranges. Think navel ships or airplanes not cars.

This module is really there "just because" you cant land on planets without it and its the only module that can go in a specific optional slot which can only accept the planetary approach suite. There is no benefit of removing it as you cant fill the slot with anything else. If anything it seems like this should be a core module and not optional because theres nothing optional about it.

Look, bottom line, FDev decided to give us extra module slots. Take it for what it is and stop griping. If you don't use the new modules the extra slots are like a free bonus. If you do use the new modules, they don't cost you slots. Why is everyone so upset when there are no down sides? Even those who complain about "power creep" can't say that the bar isn't lowered for everyone.

Take the freebies and just enjoy. And who knows, maybe down the road FDev will make these functions integral to the ship without modules, and if we still get to keep the slots, it will be like Christmas AGAIN. Not everyone uses these slots for power creeping or assistives, they open up tons of possibilities. Advanced discovery scanner? Interdictor? Limpet controller? Seems to me all small ships just got way more useful.

Why should FDev give us nice things when the community just whines that it wasn't nice enough, or that it wasn't implemented EXACTLY how we wanted?

This was a major boon, just take it for what it is, and adapt. You can ADAPT, can't you, COMMANDER?

P.S. Thank you, FDev! I was quite pleased with the update. :)

Sameness and inflation are the downsides. There was some uncertainty as to what armor scheme I, and others, would be running before this update. If someone guessed correctly, or knew how someone liked to outfit their combat ships, they would have had an advantage and deservedly so. However, due to the extra modules, the exact setup is now a given (as there is very nearly only one best setup for most ships now) and there is no need to have any weakness/trade-off anymore.

Lowering the bar for everyone may retain balance, but largely through reduction in variety, and general inflation of ship capabilities simply reduces the need for any reall consideration or concessions which were a big part of selecting and building a ship.

Obviously, my CMDR is taking advantage of the new slots, but I don't consider their addition to be positive for the game.
