Big Ticket actions to get Oculus Rift performing better

Hi

I have read a lot of material in the stickies but do not want to let me OR setup take over my configuration. I was hoping for an indication of just the most important settings to change. For instance when I go from Mid to High in Elite various sub options change (AA, shadows, textures, etc.) and my experience gets juddery - but which settings are most responsible for this?

I have change GFX card from GTX 760 2GB to GTX 970 4GB thinking this would be a silver bullet but in reality the improvement has been most underwelming ;(

The main problem is minor judder and lack of detail for ships at a distance. Blur is there but I blame my eyes for that not the hardware. I end up on Low or Mid settings all the time with partial success.

Thanks for any help, My set up is below.

The CPU is pretty old and weak enough that it'll be affecting performance. At any rate, shadows normally cause the biggest hit (and draw distance, ie distance you can see objects) and this is especially true with weaker CPUs.

As you can see the difference between low and ultra isn't that impressive. Plus given the resolution of the rift (960*1080 per eye) that means you better go with low preset and be sure to disable ambient oclusion as with shadows it's the bigger frame eater. The lack of definition for distant ships is also a rift's resolution problem. Right now i would advise you to take the draw distance to minimum, you won't notice anything strange. You can also take the textures to medium cause same things the difference is minimal.

Now if your framerate is better, in order to get better visual you can push the ingame SS to 1.5 (going from 1.5 to 2 won't give you a lot better visuals but will destroy your framerate) and force anisotropic filtering in the option of your graphic card (8x or 16x if you have the raw power).

Hi Guys
I took your advice and upgraded to a Phenom II x6 1100T. The difference was greatand the effect awesome. Buttery I think the word is.
Thanks Stu
