Big wipe

I keep reading about a big upcoming wipe, but with a crying baby I haven't time to dog deeper - anyone able to tell me what this is and when it can be expected?

We will lose our ship's and first discoveries, our ship's will be converted to money plus we'll keep all the money we have stuck back too. We will keep our pilot rank progression. Anyone see something I missed?

With a crying baby in the house you should know more about wipes than any of us.

Most likely from what I've read - You keep rank progress and reputation. All ships and assets converted to credits as I think the ships are lower priced in the preview. Exploration first found tags will be lost due to merge with the current active galaxy.

Just guessing, but I think that's pretty close.

Ships are all normal price, as are hardpoints. Since stations offer 15% discounts on the same way they do on pc.

Thanks for clarifying. I thought some were reduced during the preview as they often do that for betas, sometimes making certain models only 100CR.

No problem. 100cr? I can dream. I'd love to just test drive the Python and Conda, no upgrade's just feel how the handle mainly.

Thanks for the correction. I wonder why they are suggesting losing your ships then.

FD doesn't always make sense sometimes.

All previous betas never allowed any progress made to be brought back into the real verse, but who know what they're thinking. All of us PC players got wiped at Gamma and many self-wiped at release. Subsequent play in post-release betas has never allowed for any gains made to be brought back into the live platform.

No telling why things are apparently changing or what the final decisions will be, but there were some ideas floating on some threads that seem to lean toward credits and rank being carried over for the Xbox preview.

In all fairness to Frontier, they said they were working on converting cred balance and rep. I can only imagine the crying babies we'll hear from if, for whatever reason, they are unable to do that as planned.

During the PC Beta, new ships would be priced at 100cr (I think), to allow backers and beta testers to actually, you know, test ships to make sure they work smoothly with no bugs on things like hardpoints and more.

Ah, I meant some station offer discount like on pc.

Anyway, I have no idea. I bought into the PC version during beta 2 myself. I suppose the beta stages of the PC version (mostly) were limited. Only a small section of the galaxy was available and at one point the biggest thing you could fly was an Asp.

Beta players were given a 2 week headstart once the full version of the game was available and there was no wipe on launch like many thought there would be. I guess this is like that since xbox is playing the full version of the game exactly how it is on pc (minus powerplay actually cycling and having pc and xbox galaxy simulations synced).

I know I would be annoyed if I lost all my xbox progress. I got my Anaconda a couple days ago.

As for wiping ships and exploration data but keeping credits (+credits value of ships) and pilot federation ranks. I suspect that since our galaxy simulations aren't currently synced trying to synch them while the xbox version has its own set of exploration data would be problematic. Ships will probably be similar.

You can borrow mine stealth.....

Oh dang that feature hasn't come yet. Sorry bro :(
Oh well, I'll get to them eventually anyway. ;)

Yeah I knew they were cheap, but just 100 was a bit of a  moment.

Nope. You pretty much covered it Stealth! :D

Have to say I was pleasantly surprised when I read of their plans to allow us to keep all of our earned credits and various rankings etc. Losing the Cart Data doesn't bother me, especially since I had originally expected we were going to lose everything when we transitioned to the final release.

After reading that news from the XB1 Project Lead, I totally changed my play style and started focusing on building up my credit reserves, buying multiple ships, and basically working up everything that we are going to be able to keep and bring with us into the final game.

Getting a lump sum of our earned credits will actually be pretty cool I think. By the time this test program ends, most players would have determined which ships they like best, which ones they didn't care for etc. As long as you record all of your favorite SHIP BUILDS with a text file on your PC, or by using an ED third party site like Coriolis, which is a great resource for keeping a record of your various ship builds.

Then it will only take you 5-10 minutes to buy one of your favorite ships and go through your Coriolis file with your ship docked in the Outfitter and basically install all your previous modules, hard points etc. into the base ship.

Any concrete reference from FD? Not too interested in some wild forum guessing...

Pretty much ^^

But if the consensus is the actual plan you'll want to strip all your ships to the rivets and maybe sell everything off but a Sidey before the wipe to max your credit balance and not lose the 10% on the upgraded stuff.

I honestly don't really care what they do, but I do think that their inconsistent, ever changing policies and behaviors create a lot of unnecessary problems for themselves and the community. As much as I understand how much impact it is to start back in a Sidey, that's what all the PC backers had to do. Not a big deal, just think a bit of consistent pol;icy would eliminate a lot of problems on all sides. Not clearly stating what would be done transitioning to the Xbox release when the preview came out just isn't fair to anyone - FD, PC players, or Xboxers. If they had spelled it out from the get go, it would have been over and done with already.

For me it's just another example of how FD sometimes fails to look down the road a bit and analyze consequences of the decisions they make.

I don't begrudge the Xbox community, I just wonder why the same didn't apply for the backers when the game was released. To be fair FD, how about giving us backers a payout of what we were worth when you wiped us at Gamma?

n o o d l z: Do you know what the odds are that we're going to see a wipe of our data from the game preview? What things are most at risk for getting wiped (e.g. I would think first discovery data would be difficult to merge with PC)?

As we add content like CQC to Elite: Dangerous on Xbox One we’re going to have to reset some data, but because the Game Preview is longer than our usual PC beta tests we’re aiming to keep as much progression as possible. Discovery data and Powerplay status will be reset, but we’re looking to ‘cash in’ everyone’s ships and modules so you won’t lose your financial progress, and you’ll be able to re-spec with a whole different kind of ship if you’d like.

Best of all, we plan to preserve all the Commander data, such as Rank, Credits, Progress to Elite, Xbox Hero Stats and Achievements throughout the Game Preview and even into the full game.
