Newcomer / Intro "Billerica Bessie" and other ship-names?

I'll list "Billerica Bessie" for the time being, since this is the only one I can find in recent memory - however - I've seen other names too. Are they a type of general consensus on the load-out, named by the first person to find an ideal build, or a personal title?

I'm the CMDR of Billerica Bessie (Affectionately known by the port stevedores as "that thing") There's no official recognition of the name, it's just what I call her. I used to have it spray-painted across the front in nice stencilled letters but a big chunk of Lepidolite scraped most of the paint off.

Maybe someday the station registries will support our names for our ships, wouldn't that be cool? But then I'd have to name my ship "my green dripping c*ck" after this old rooster that fell in a pond in a song my nursie used to sing when I was a kid... Or something like that. I had to replace the 'o' with a '*' because apparently the authorities like to choke chickens. Or something like that.

PS - she's named sort of after a song by Ian Dury and The Blockheads. I love classical music.

It's just another way to personalise the game for some players. When a few thousand other people have the exact same ship with the same loadout and the same paint job, it helps me to feel attached to mine.

The names of my ships have meanings - the Viper name is a reference to a line in an Ian M. Banks novel, for example.
