Bindings being dropped?

Twice in 4 days my bindings have been dropped from the game on startup. I keep backups, so other than some copy/paste and a couple restarts not a huge problem.

Is anyone else having this issue lately?

Yes, and there are some topics in bug section.

I am using XBox Wireless for SRV driving, and if I don't press button to make it active on game start my bindings are all over the place.
I can't select "Custom" preset in that case even all my XBox commands are set as secondaries, and my custom M/KB setting have all commands covered as primaries.

I would really like for game to remember last preset used and change that only if current configuration makes conflict.

Not sure about XBox but one thing to look for is a bindings error text file in the directory where the bindings are kept. I had a similar problem to OP recently, and what I realised was that when i had my ED tracker disconnected my custom bindings wouldn't load because the headlook axes were bound to the ED Tracker "joystick". The text file said "unrecognised device".

Yeah, I have a gamepad connected that I only use for SRV driving. When I start the game once without that gamepad connected, my controls end up messed up. It has not been like that earlier. Before everything was normal, I just couldn't drive until I connected the controller. But not exactly sure when it started.

OK then, I think there's a common theme. My rudder pedals weren't plugged in today when I started the game. That's when all the controls reverted to the stock Thrustmaster.

If you edit your binds, these will be saved in "custom.binds". This file will be reset/overwritten if any/one controller is not connected. This can happen after a big update/patch too.
This won't happen when you created a personal config.

Check this thread, good to back up the config and make "your" profile. This way you can also create different profiles for different controllers and switch easily via options.

This should be helpfull, thank you for the link!

[edit] I have made custom file, also changed second line to match with the name. There was new option in bindings menu that I have select and saved and exited game.
Tried to load game again and all was fine.

Turned game off and waited for XBox controller to turn off also. Started the game again but custom file was not visible, default binding was used and also my custom binding was not in the list.
So this won't help in my case.

What if I made the custom binds file "read only"? Would that stop the problem as well?

In my case our new custom binding is just not shown in the list if something is not connected, also bindings revert to default.
Making it read only doesn't do much, as it is just ignored by the game.

Having issues on game launch sounds like some file sync issues to me. If you are on Steam, see my suggestions below. As for me? Despite keeping a copy of my bindings file on my desktop, I personally have never had my bindings get nerfed by a game update or whatever.

If you bought the game through Steam, but are using the ED Launcher to handle game updates, that might be part of your problem. I had a serious file corruption issue befall my ED application after the 2.4 update. I had been using the Launcher to handle the downloads, but when this method is used, there can be problems with the game files when Steam attempts to sync to an update it did not participate in.

On the advice of Frontier and Steam tech support, I no longer upgrade the game via the Launcher, but always use the Steam Client. No problems since. Going on 7 months now and no problems. In any event, you should defintely go into your Steam Client and VERIFY FILES for your ED installation immediately.

And when 3.03 drops later today, be sure to use the Steam Client to handle the upgrade.

Why not edit your files to something other than "custom"? Change the file name and change the descriptor in line 2 of the file (that's where the game looks) - never have lost bindings ever again.
