Bindings keep getting wiped every update

As title...does anyone else go through this every time there is an update? I haven't played for a couple of weeks, feel a bit burned out but logged in this morning, saw the update, downloaded, went to play.... no bindings ..AGAIN!

Is it not possible that bindings can remain untouched when there is an update. Becoming tiresome.

Never had and issue with an update, but if you have multiple controllers you can lose bindings if you move around the USB ports. Always a good idea to back up the bindings file.

I use a HOTAS with rudder pedals, each update has been fine. I think it was only Beta to Gamma that caused issues for people.

My bindings have stayed since Gamma 2.0, before that they would wipe all the time.

Also, unplugging and replugging your controller or HOTAS a lot can reset them.

I started this very thread yesterday too. But it could be controller specific, and what I've also noticed is that if you unplug/ plug while the launcher is up it doesn't register.
Also, any third party programmes that are required (I use a remaped PS4 controller until HOTAS arrives) that are updated seem to affect it too.

I don't think it's an ED issue now, whereas I used to. It's frustrating as hell but eliminating the root cause and working backwards does eventually find where it's going wrong.

A workaround. Setup controllers exactly how you want them.

Start, Run: %userprofile%\AppData\Local\Frontier Developments\Elite Dangerous\Options\Bindings

Copy custom.binds to MyJoypad.binds (or whatever name you want to give it)

You will now have an editable template that's selectable in the dropdown list of a binding just how you want it, which is not overwritten by patching or your joystick not being plugged in, or whatever.

Repeat for as many control methods as you require.

Funny, just posted about this in another thread.
My Warthog will lose it's custom bindings every time I run the game if the TARGET software isn't already running.
On my desktop I now have folder with my custom keys and a shortcut to the game bindings.
EDIT: Zebarmy's post above seems like a great idea. Will do that ASAP. Thanks.

I haven't actually lost bindings with a patch for ages.

Yes. Every single time for me too. Although I have a printed out map of my controller bindings, having to go through the whole process is tiresome when you have two joysticks to remap. In fact I just went to play for the first time since 1.07 was released, found my controllers didn't work and couldn't face remapping them again (not in the right frame of mind) and logged off again. I read about some poor guy yesterday who lost months of work because a family member cleared his saved file without realizing the full implications of what they did. You can't muck around with this game can you?! Being able to backup your profile in case of instances like that would be useful but no doubt that would be open to abuse. I'm not overly keen on MMOs at all and only really relented in this case because it was 'Elite' and having played the original one from 1984, had to see what it looked like on modern systems. The funny thing is that, taking the gorgeous graphics and gigantic map out of the equation. The core game and mission style hasn't changed much at all. Thankfully, FD intend to flesh it out with more content over time and it will be interesting to see what it looks like in two to three years time.
