Docking permission can be requested via the Contacts tab in the left menu of your ship: enter the Target menu ("1" by default), move to the Contacts tab ('q' or 'e' to switch tabs), select the station (select by using the space bar), and highlight/select the "Request Docking Permission" (using the w, s, and spacebar keys).

Just to be clear, you can't change the binding for requesting landing, it is where it is.

We'd all like more keybinds - e.g. for request docking permission, or for more fire buttons. Unfortunately, we never got them. If you can accept a workaround - several people recommend scripting tools like Voice Attack. Personally, my muscle memory serves well enough. Even boosting in a Viper from the drop in point leaves you with enough time for those three clicks.

My muscle memory had shock recently when they added that extra tab in the Left UI for that powerplay crap.

This is because although requested many times over the years there isn’t a direct keybind for this.
We have to use the contacts screen and for that to work we need the ships scanner to be working.

I have thought from time to time that it is a way to make botting more difficult.

Its a reall;y bad look for some keybindings to be missing, the game has these features but no keybind.

Supercruise assist for example. Yuo have to decide where to go, then go very fast as you charge your drive, then press 1 to pop the list of contacts, then scroll scroll scroll to find it though your selected contact isn't particularly highlighted having just a yellow map-pin alongside the yellow text, then select it, then press d to highlight sc assist and then select that.

If your target is close... you'll find you've overshot already, or you have to reorientate to get it in the centre screen. Its a right flipping mess.

Yes it does sound a pain but if your target was so close anyway why bother with the assist, especially as I believe it doesn't work when using the much more fun Super Cruise Overcharge.
