So I keep on going over this one, trying to figure out what was Frontier thinking. Nothing really adds up, so I came up with a theory. First off, this dlc was a big deal, the first time ever that an all animal pack was going to be release to the community. The majority of us had been asking for bigger dlcs, at least an increase on the animal count. Some of us never expected it to come at the expense of every single pieces of scenery in the dlc (an average of 200 pieces) So we got what we wanted kind off, never the less, Frontier knew that all eyes were on them for this dlc, and they will need to hit it out of the park.
When the dlc trailer and animal images started rolling in, they definitely did that. The quality was superb, magnificent to say the least. The clouded leopard, Sun bear, Proboscis Monkey all look like they were alive, and who does not remember the leaf insect it looked almost too real for the game. So thinking about all this, there were a number of working theories of why the disaster known as binturong day happened. Maybe they needed more time, a new artist was given the task and was unfamiliar with animals, no one did a quality check on the dlc before it was green lighted, they were all working from home, so the communication was not good, the binturong was a really difficult animal to create, it was always destined to be a failure.
What if none of these are the reasons why the monstrosity was revealed today, what if it is all a joke? Aprils fools day is right around the corner, could it all be one big joke? Today is March 25th, in medieval times this was the day to make a joke. Frontier is a European company with an abundance of European employees, could all this be a joke? I hope we find out soon enough, but just thought about it, and it is the only way it makes sense. They could have picked a hundred other animal species for Southeast Asia if they wanted to avoid the disaster of the binturong, so why pick an iconic animal to so many and do such a poor job, when everyone was going to be looking at every animal?
