Bio scanning.

When Bio scanning why three different areas for one bio when one bio should be enough, IN THE REAL WORLD THEY DO IT WITH ONE BIO.

When we do the bio's, we can only hand in one why!, we should be able scan more than one type of bio's, yes i wasted a lot of time scanning 3 different bio's on one planet only to find out i could only hand in one.

Another thoughtless process scan one go to station hand in go back scan next go back hand in, repeat and rinse.

It seams nothing in this game is worth doing if you have to waste your time doing it once or regrinding back and forth.

It's called needing diversity in the DNA to get a complete sample - hence needing the 3 'readings'. Not saying it's good gameplay or not but you only need to ensure the 3 samples are taken far enough away, and from what I've seen it is usually only 500m or 1km separation depending on species.

Unsure what you mean by being able to scan only one before handing it in. When you've collected the 3 samples of the one species, it saves the data so you can proceed to the next species (that's the animation it does after the 3 samples of removing the canister and pressing a button then placing the canister back on the tool). I've scanned multiple species several times and handed them in at once.

it was way worse in the alpha as you had to actually do the minigame not just hold the button 🤦‍♂️

the whole mechanic was derided so badly and even the CM nearly blew his top on stream trying to do it, it was beautiful

Like most of the mechanics in Odyssey, its poorly thought out, badly implemented and a pain to do especially if you do bacteria pools

Sorry i meant one set of three, this is so-pose to be in the future and DNA/BIO scanning should be very quick after all time is money.

Like i said i scanned three sets of three different bio's and only able to hand in one set, the other two were lost in the games un-logic void.

Most of the stuff I've scanned I've been able to find an area pretty quickly where I can scan almost everything within a 2km radius of where the ship is landed.

Not being able to scan another plant until I have 3 of the one I'm working on is a gameplay element I could do without, but it's not a huge burden. Having to get three samples itself is arbitrary but fair enough imo, it encourages the player to actually explore.

Really, really starting to wish the SRV wave scanner could help detect & distinguish different plant types though, and stopping, jumping out to check for bio-diversity then hopping back into the SRV again is getting old fast.

If the SRV had a genetics scanner function, FD would have nothing to justify their implementation of legs outside FPS. Almost makes me suspect EDO was designed to be an FPS the whole time, and that exploration was tacked on as a facade. I don't know, that's probably just a conspiracy theory.

it really illustrates the problem with the disconnect between on foot and in SRV / ship that Odyssey has.

When you deploy from the ship in the SRV, why isnt the navigation target transferred to the SRV?
When you deploy on foot from the ship or SRV, why isnt the navigation target transferred to the on foot targetting?
Why arent targets that the ship or SRV detect, selectable when on foot?
Why doesnt the scanner on SRV detect biologicals for Odyssey? it detects them just fine for horizons
When you bio scan something on foot it places a waypoint you can see on the compass, why isnt that information transferred to the SRV or ship compass?

For combat zones, why doesnt on foot targetting transfer to wingmates on foot, in the SRV or in a ship doing air support?

To me it seems that all of odyssey was developed disconnected from previous gameplay, by someone who never played elite at all, and had no concept of datalinks and the like that are in very common use age today, let alone 1000 years in the future
