Biological (1)

Yup, bacteria.

Managed to accidentally find one by SRV because the composition analyzer blinked for a sec as if something was there.

To find the second sample I kept spamming the sample analyzer running in one direction until it lit up. For the third one I noticed the sound that the analyzer does if it detects something.

I can't really complain that bacteria are invisible to the naked eye though...

Anyone having luck finding these? The heat map that appears basically covers 90% of the planet surface. Randomly flying within those areas didn't see to do the trick, and I've tried with about 6 different planets so far.
I was randomly flying low and spotted some small clouds in the sky in the distance. When I flew there the biologicals popped in below me when I got low enough. The DSS is broken for me in VR so I really haven't tried it to generate a heat map yet.

Bacteria, always is with 1 signal on atmospherics. Equip your bio scanner, if it's a low grav planet run and jump and pulse your scanner ahead you will eventually see a blue patch, they can be scattered widely. On bodies with multiple bio and bacteria they usually are found intemingled with or near the other bio. If you find a patch there is usually another couple close by, it took me a while in the Alpha but eventually got these down to a system where it was reasonably easy to find them.

Getting some more experience with it, you can actually notice it without the tool, which gives you a bit of extra range. Though it may come down to luck, for example in a sand-color planet having bacterium that are green makes it easier to see.

Unfortunately I see that codex bugs remain unfixed, so anything you find will eventually disappear from it. Plus Odyssey entries from others aren't being displayed at all... though they're being counted on the region summary.

How does one read the Heat Map

All looks blue to me, is it just my eyes

And how to you scan things

Can across grass like plants but the SRV wont scan it and I dont seem to have any explorers tools being in the middle of no where

You need the explorer (Artemis?) suit to scan things - the tool on that will do it for you. My suspicion is that the blue heatmap thing is a bug, rather than just being a problem with readability, as there are other problems with shaders too (for example the back view of a planet during the DSS scan). We might have to wait for a fix before it's usable.

You can scan with the ship/SRV using the composition scanner like on old geo sites. It'll give the codex entry, but for the sampling process to advance xenobiologist rank you need the artemis suit.

If you look closely, it's a large discoloured patch. They are tricky to spot but can be seen from a ship passing low.

I will give a go scanning with the Sidey

I think I am 10000s of Ly from the nearest ship and only have the default suit
