Biological Scanner Question?.

As an early subscriber to Odyssey I received a suit as a freebie. Can't remember what it is called now. When Odyssey was released there were a lot of bugs in it in regard to on foot, stations etc. As I was not particularly interested in the walkabout aspect of EDO I never used it other than an aborted attempt at the trainer.

Being more interested in mining and exploration I set off in my fleet carrier on a really long term exploration/mining trip heading first to Sag X and then to Colonia and back to the bubble at a leisurely rate. Lately I started landing on planets in some systems which I have found first. After finding some geological and biological stuff I managed to scan the geologicals with the SRV composition scanner but couldn't figure out how to scan the biologicals.

Watched a couple of videos on You Tube and found that they were using a hand held scanner to scan them. Having never really bothered with the on foot part other than walking up to my seat in the fleet carrier while preparing to jump I now find myself needing a crash course on walking on planets while 15000ly from the bubble. On the videos it states that the biological scanner comes with the Artemis suit and as I said the only suit I have is the black one I received as an early subscriber to Odyssey. Does this mean I don't have one and should have bought a scanner and other stuff before leaving the bubble?.

If somehow I do have this hand held scanner could someone point me to either a written or video walkthrough on the latest on foot settings. I use a X56 for the ship and SRV controls but just set the On-Foot option to the EDO keyboard and mouse settings?.

The first thing you'll need to do is get yourself an Artemis suit. You can use the Inara "Search nearest" web page to find somewhere that's selling these near you (perhaps a passing fleet carrier with a Pioneer Supplies store eqipped).

For example ...

Hit "Change search" then enter where you are in the "Near star system" box and re-run the search.

Fly there, disembark, walk to the lift, take the lift to the concourse, follow the signs to Pioneer Supplies, talk to the guy/gal, buy an Artemis suit.

Thanks for the reply Alec unfotunately I am 15000+ly from the bubble on my way to SagX so I won't be returning for an Artemis or any other suit considering that as I pre ordered Odyssey and received a Pioneer suit as one of the freebies I was never made aware that I would need another type. What was the reason to give the Pioneer suit to early subscribers if it wasn't any good for anything other than walking about on, another Cobra mkIV episode from FD it would seem. So going for biologicals is a no go unless I can buy an Artemis suit when I eventually get to Colonia.

Without getting into the other issues you raise, you may well find that you don't have to travel far. Try it ... there could well be a fleet carrier within a few hundred light years of where you are, maybe just 15mins or so away from you depending on your jump range.

I thought I'd read somewhere that at some point FD gave the Explorer suit to players for exactly this reason (that explorers may have been far outside the bubble when EDO dropped and so couldn't easily buy a suit). But maybe it was a suggestion rather than something that actually happened.

Further reading for anyone that wants a salt lick ...

Some of DSSA Carriers may have the Pioneer Supplies activated.
So searching for DSSA carriers, then checking Inara for what services they have active, and visiting one - might be faster than returning to civilization

unlike a weapon which you have to buy the genetic scanner is a tool the comes with the suit...…………….
as is the arc cutter that comes with a maverick suit handy for cutting panels of probes found etc but in the bubble that can attract dropship npc in fact just close proximity to one can
all carry a profile analyser for scaning npc or stealing id and a suit power charger for base charge points in bubble or at ship entry point via auto induction etc
you will also fully recharge upon entering srv obviously
