Engineers Biotech Conductors

I'd like to make G5 Long Range beams and need Biotech Conductors.

The wiki says they are a mission reward, yet I haven't seen them ever since I started playing this game.

Google search claims that they are either bugged and thus unobtainable or that they can be found in High Tech systems in the state of Outbreak, however eddb.io claims there is no such system.

Are these obtainable? If so, how and where?

I haven't checked since 2.4, but high-level mission reward had them quite frequently - I had 80 and had to throw away some of them.

Please bear in mind that your own rank affects mission rewards: so if you are Elite in trading, you will see higher-tier Trade missions more often and thus you will have a higher chance of seeing them as reward.

Unfortunately it seems that the 2.4 upgrade has virtually removed Biotech Conductors, Exquisite Focus Crystals, Modified Embedded and Cracked Industrial Firmware even from the high-level missions' rewards. In 2.3 there have been still plenty of them, but now they are gone. Ask FD when they will come back.

Biotech Conductors and EFC are quite often with Colonia missions so effectivly AWOL. I have seen no CIF since the update and tweek to the missions.

I did find 3 EFC, from several hundred missions, which means 1 every 500 missions if you are lucky.

IMHO the mission rewards are broke again, or working as intended (player torture).[down]

I have Elite combat, Elite trade, and got 90% Pionner. With that set of ranks, I could get lots of BC/EFC from missions per hour, at 2.4. All was nice until 2.4.02 patch, wich broke missions material rewards, they been almost gone, and appear only for 22k colonia missions.

Given there is no response from FDev yet to adress this issue, I say, for them this surely appear works as they intended.

Are you sure ?
I thought i got them there on sunday. Maybe i am mixing it up.

Also see them on missions. Not only Colonia.

Edit:
Long range waps are crap. Have them all in stock, but dont use them.
Efficient or overcharged.

No Bio Tech at Dav's for sure, the Data terminal is giving CIF's at a terrible rate, which is hands down better than the mission boards.

Now if only EFC's and Bio's were given at a new HGE system, Fdev could keep on braking the missions and nobody would care, a single sorce mat is the definition of, what ever you call it.

I got CIF in surface scan and I did see some Biotech Conductors as mission rewards, however these missions had destinations over 20k Lys away...
I did a lot of exploration already, so I'd rather not do these missions.
As far as rank goes, I'm on PS4 and my ranks are Master, Broker and Pioneer.

I have 2x C4 Efficient Beams and they work well, however I was told be a few friends to change them to Long Range.,It's true that 600m effective range is horrible, even if I can fire them 24/7 thanks to my rolls.

Nevermind...
I just realized that all Long Range upgrades change damage falloff start to weapons max range and all G5 upgrade does is enhance weapons max range. Starting max range for Beams is 3000m, which is more than enough for the gimballs on my Corvette. G4 upgrade will be overkill already.

Had to clear another 7 from storage today. they are available, just do frequent data delivery missions and you will start to see a lot more of them.

Best of luck!

Yes, g5 long range is a fixed weapon thing. It's rare but helpful on kinetic weapons, eg fixed multi, due to doubled shot speed meaning less lead. It's great on fixed lasers. It's devastating on rails.

But on gimbals the 'sway' of the weapon (the swarm of bees, as it's sometimes known, if you have multiple gimballed aiming points moving around) means that the time off target at very long range is too great. If you want to use long range on a gimbal, purely to remove damage fall-off, you perhaps may as well use g1 as g5. g4 as you say is overkill but does benefit from super-easy mats, so a good compromise.

I prefer to have gimballs on my Corvette. If the target is too far, I disengage lock-on and fire manually since I get more hits in this way.

The long range upgrade is pretty neat, but the heat and capacitor draw are an issue, even though I got reduced draw secondary and Heat Vent.
I can fire my efficient ones nonstop, so I'm having a hard time deciding between the two.
For smaller ships, the long range is perfect, but for big ships, the capacitor gets empty before I drop their shields, which is annoying + most big ships want to fight face to face with me, so long range doesn't benefit me at all there...

Actually, after many experiments, I think I found a way to obtain BC and EFC without getting into colonia... But that requires specific ship, and lots of luck with mission board at specific system. Still, they became indeed "Very rare" as could not get more than 5-6 per hour. If only fractions would give 15-20 missions per fraction like during 2.4 and 2.4.01...

I admire your perseverance. Personally, I won't mat gather until 2018 now. I'm hoping Frontier's improvements are not just to the rolls themselves but also to the gathering.
