Biowaste & Limpets: The Next Generation of Mission Rewards

There used to be a time when games did that and people just thought it was a slightly funny and stupid little quirk. These days it's some highly political "immersion-breaking" bug.

Get a grip, folks.

Dude, in and of itself, it is quirky and kind of funny. What isn't funny is that at the same time this happened, Neofabric Insulation, Articulation Motors, and Microweave cooling hoses - all "Reward Only" commodities - have disappeared. Without those, you can't unlock a lot of the tech from the new Tech Brokers. You know, one of the highlight new features of 3.0!

The junk commodities are aggravating the situation in two ways:
1. They're cluttering the board, making a lot of people think that these rewards aren't missing and that you just need to get board flipping/roaming around to find them. However, after a few days of threads on this, not one person has been able to show that they saw these rewards available anywhere AFTER Monday's 3.0.3 patch.
2. When the missing reward do return, will they be as prominent as the Modular Terminals still are amongst all this junk? Or will they be lost in the weeds and cause more confusion as to whether the bug is fixed or not?

I mean hey, if the Devs want to take the easy way out for all parties, they could just drop those commodity requirements for the Tech Broker unlocks. It's not like there aren't enough expensive (as in time to gather) mats for each one already with out these stupid engineering commodities thrown in on top.

Who the heck wants limpets for a mission reward? Ditto dog-dung?

That's right up there with shielded fuel scoops for Explorers. I hope the 2 Commanders using them are very happy.

I know we had issues with missions rewarding commodities which could be used as requirements for other local missions, but.....limpets and dog-dung??? [blah]

How about some raw material rewards instead? No fetch missions require those.

Please perform an exorcism on these poor mission rewards. Thanks.

So let me get straight - you complain about having strange yet interesting material rewards or that reward list doesn't include some of stuff you need?
 
I have a theory that the devs have a sweepstake running in the office ..... how low will players get to earn their Big Ships fast ? :D No Credits? Ten limpets? One limpet ?

Sweepstake funded by paint sales in the shop !
 
Hey not every Station has facilities to rearm llimpets! last night while investigating some Deeper Space USS and needing some repairs i actually was quiet happy to get offered Limpets as a reward instead of hunting mats with my SRV with a pretty poor trade ratio.

Just because your used to roam around WELL equipped space areas doesen't make limpet rewards useless. Its Your Choice afterall.

That would make sense if they only offered them at places that didn't stock them!!! ;)
 
At first I found all these Biowaste and Limpet rewards an amusing bug, that further points to some major issues with how rewards are doled out in the game...

But considering we are still only getting a whopping total of (3) G5 mats offered as mission rewards, when there are dozens more than that in the game we never see, is getting more annoying by the day!

I'm not really hurting for any mats or data personally at the moment, but for the good of the game, this really needs to be addressed ASAP!

Ironic thing is you can still use some of the mission rewards to complete mission offered at the same station. I've seen prismatic Imperium (an anti slavery player faction aligned with AD the anti-slavery imperial power) offering imperial slaves as mission rewards at cubeo (which they and AD control and Ban imperial slaves from), where the local pirate faction was also offering missions to smuggle in imperial slaves.

I'm really starting to regret that joke video.

Oddly enough, I've taken Limpets as a reward a couple of times now.

Why?

So here I am, going about in my trash collector ship, picking up bits and pieces from USS's and stopping by various stations to look for the odd mission here or there that is offering up some other bit of material that I happen to need. Oh look, here's one offering up a number of Grid Resistors. I need some Grid Resistors, and right below that, one offering 30 limpets to ferry some data to the same system I'm already heading to for Grid Resistors.. and I'm down to my last 10 limpets anyways. Perfect, I don't have to stop and buy any.

Stupidly convenient.

It's almost like... they want us to spend time filling our material capacity... and here I am, filling my material capacity, and having the least amount of things to b---h about.

On a one-way mission, where the commodity the faction is offering is NOT available at the destination, this could be a nice bonus. However, for the ones that have you return to the same station - e.g. Assassination, Planetary Scans, etc. - it's insulting.

Plus, as Vedmo pointed out in my thread about the mission rewards being borked, he got offered Imperial Slaves as a reward in a system controlled by Aisling Duval. Hmm, what's wrong with this picture?

Look, if they want to leave the crazy commodities in... fine. As long as they bring back the missing "reward only" commodities we need for the tech brokers AND those missions are choked out by all the "weed" missions of "Here, have some limpets!" Honestly, the quickest/best fix for the missing items would be to remove them from the Tech Broker requirements. Then I wouldn't give a toss about these crazy rewards.

The missions in this game will never be sorted :(
 
I think the point here is that these rewards feel like an insult. Presumably the intention behind limpets was to give us something that might actually be useful. Considering the availability and the price of limpets though it really feels like the game is mocking our effords. Even more so getting biowaste as a reward.

In general material rewards should not be interchangable with money. If all you do with your rewards is sell them, or if the reward is something you can easily buy, then what's the point?
 
Would be funny if we see Paint-Jobs as next in the rewards.
For a player without Horizons expansion: 5 PaintJobs for SRV, Inf++, Rep++
For a veteran player with 2 years in Game: 12 PaintJobs for Sidewinder, Inf++, Rep+
For a warrior, never though about to enter a Hauler: 8 PaintJobs for T-10, Inf+, Rep+
