Bipedal Locomotion: Life Aboard the Beluga Liner

We know, we know, you want to get up out of your chair and walk around, especially if you're a Beluga pilot. You want to experience the crowing jewel of luxury.

Well, maybe I can help a little... let's take a look at what life aboard a Beluga Liner is really like....

Once aboard, it doesn't take long for the opulence to become noticable.

Perhaps you'll be lucky enough to book a room in one of the Beluga's Luxury cabins.

Which include unlimited pool access.

Complementary drinks at the Observation Deck lounge.

But even Economy Class passengers are well off.

And have access to meals prepared by the ship's signature chefs, working in gourmet galleys.

All passengers have access to the Upper Deck lounge, featuring 3 dance floors.

As well as access to the main concourse.

Shield generators help protect the ship and its passengers from hostile ships, and toast racks.

Optional fighter bays can add an additional level of ship's security.

Large optional cargo bays ensure plenty of room for guest's luggage, additional cases of Lavian Brandy, or even standard cargo.

So get off your duff.

And go see this magnificent ship for yourselves.

...

Well, once you can. No promises, no ETA's.

Looks spiffy! All those loose deck chairs are going to become a serious safety hazard every time the captain hits the boost button though, and that's not even to mention what's going to happen to that pool...

::scans harmless ship leaving station, fires reverb torpedo and 4 frag cannons::

That’s literally seconds of game play there.

This same cop-out can be applied to nearly any activity, so if this is your go-to, maybe Elite shouldn’t be.

While this is largely a tongue-in-cheek thread, I think some of those tongues are in the completely wrong cheeks. This isn’t Iceland.

While we’re very likely still a long way off from scenic strolls around our ships, it absolutely lays a foundation for many forms of additional game play, much of which David Braben himself has commented as wanting as part of Elite.

I think the gameplay needs to come first, before cosmetic stuff like wandering around ships.

It's like making Doom (this forum loves Doom) and creating wonderfully designed and beautifully rendered corridors, then putting the monsters in in version 2

I've got to ask, how do you keep the water in the pool in a zero G environment? P

Force field. Same way they keep the air envelope in the space stations.

To build on that analogy, we’re playing what is, in essence, an Early Access, as Elite is still growing and developing. We are in the game with the beautifully rendered corridors, and no monsters just yet.

Look at how much of the “core game” was changed from 1.0 through 3.3, and look at the number of missing or incomplete systems we still have (bipedal movement is missing, atmospheric landing is missing (read: planetary landings are incomplete), and think of how that relates to your Doom analogy. We’ve only got the 1st and 2nd level corridors, and your worried about the monsters?

But don’t get me wrong either - I want game play to go with my locomotion as well, and so does Frontier. They’ve even said so themselves.

This is just where things get a little tricky. See, we have no real idea what 4.0 holds in store for us, we just know they’ve said there will be no content releases in 2019. Our next content release is slated for 2020, which means a year’s worth of programming, development and related tasks being done - developers going to work every day, doing work.

What the payoff for that work will be, only time will tell. If it comes to pass that, at the end of 2020 they say: “Ok, we know you all want to get up and walk around AND have stuff to do, and we can do that, but it’s going to take us until 2022 to do all the work that needs done so this isn’t a few seconds of game play, then your butt is back in your seat for the rest of your life.” I’d be perfectly OK with that. If I have to wait, I wait.

It’s worth it to me.

Hmmm ... but the gym is always out of service ..... maybe we have to fix the gym .... that's a whole day of play right there !

Depends on how RNGesus feels. Gathering enough Gym Technicians, bolts and magnets could take several days, even if you can find the right system states.
