Don't forget, if you play solo (for now) you won't have to worry about seal clubbers and you can focus more on moving around learning the game. That's good advice for any new pilots!
I always say to new players to stay in solo until they've put at least 50ly, preferably 100, between themselves and the starter systems. After that, you become a very small needle in a very,
very large haystack.
All good advice. I’ll add another good place.

Ray Gateway is a great little spot - decent amount of players but not quite enough to attract the clubbers, though you might still run into one or two. Or else run into some jerk in a sidewinder running around with an interdictor demanding that you accept diamonds at gunpoint. Ahem.
I'm weighing up whether to stick around or find somewhere quieter though - too many player factions around that area and I'm getting that itch that only political manipulation can satisfy and don't want to actually step on people's toes. I've still got my carrier parked nearby though since it's got some mined stuff on the market that I'm waiting to get rid of before I make a move.
