Newcomer / Intro Bit of early game advice needed, trading and finding a better base

I was also struggling with trades etc when I started. When the fighting was on in Lugh I bit the bullet and went over there. I knoew nothing about ED combat etc or factions. I got pasted and sat back. I tried another CG. Then I found Trudds trading tool. This has help me a lot in gaining a steady income from trading. I have not thought of returning back to the start point and based myself at Lugh for the moment. I think a nomadi lifestyle might be good in this game.

I've found that the longer I play, the more nomadic I become.

I still pop in to my home system from time to time to say "Hi" to the Partnership of Skinfaxi though. We're great friends! They always send a welcome party of a Clipper or Python flanked by a couple of Cobras and put on a nice spectacle son et lumiere for me!

Thanks guys, I do want to branch out, I'd like to visit Lave if I can, just for old times sake really, not to hang around as I'm sure 70% of players go there. I would like to get further out and find a corner, I am just stuck at the moment in my original corner. No direction I go seems to let me break out. I get to a point where the jumps are too far and I have to head back. Once I can upgrade I'll branch out but I don't want to rush into a better a ship. I want to make sure I have enough to fit some decent equipment in any new ship I buy as well

Well, I made it to Azenan City and you guys were right, what a let down really, I was making more money trading back in my starting area. However I have had a lot of success exploring and made some good money, I have now upgraded to an Adder to get a bit more trading space. I have had a couple of near misses with Pirates (NCD ones) one nearly finished me and I had to dump my cargo. I was dead in space and managed to find the reboot option in my Status menu. The reboot got my thrusters up and running again and I limped to the nearest starbase. Soon after I was interticted again and again couldn't escape, this time though it went a little better but the result would have ended up the same had a couple of Security vipers not arrived. Still we got him and I got myself 10k credits for basically barely surviving ;-)

My "home" system - Skinfaxi - is a great place to learn the ropes.

It has RESes, a great shipyard and outfitters and high demand for metals at Watt's Co-Operative - it's primarily an industrial system. There's a high-tech, Xihe, not more than 12LY away and plenty of systems of different tyeps and allegiances surrounding it. Join the revolution, Comrade.

Another question! I'm really getting to grip now I think, had a few successful run ins with pirates who Interdict me, basically just hung in there until the Police arrive!
How do I make a base home? I have a ship stored somewhere , does that become my home by default or can I choose a home base?

Home Is Where The Heart Is.

("Home" is just the term for "place you like to stay for a while". There's no gameplay technique to know about)

There's no feature for it. Most people just pick a station and operate out of there :)

Hi All

I always seem to start a new game in the same system, LHS3447, which is OK but I can't seem to find anything to trade. A few people have said that Azeban City is a good base but I have been trying to find my way there all morning. I even found myself in a few Anarchy systems as I tried to find my way there. Survived unscathed but no profit, I have now been carrying the same cargo for 4 systems, everyone is selling it no one seems to want it. I'd really like to get somewhere more built up. The systems I am near now all seem to be Tiny Population and all the same type.

I am currently in the Apoyota System and have been further afield in my search for Azeban City but no luck, I guess my Sidewinder is too limited to get there. I seem to get to points where I can't jump any further and I have had to head back.

I'm also struggling to get any decent Bulletin Board missions, looking for low risk until I can build up my strength. Looks at the moment like I am going to have to head back to LHS3447, Azeban is out of reach! Would be nice if every new game wasn't always at the same starting point. Not sure if it's a Steam thing that means I always start LHS3447, I have read from others that they started elsewhere

If you want some help come check us out:

If you make the trip, sign up for our forums, maybe hit us up in teamspeak so we can meet you, we will help. We are getting ready to create a sub-group for traders. All newbies welcome. There will be a program that will allow you to get a free T6.

It is possible to reach us in a sidewinder but it is a dangerous trip to make, especially if your new, so be careful. Making it out to us is part of the initiation.

Lave and the surrounding area can be a warzone in open so bear that in mind.

Yeah I don't play in open, I play in the Mobius group but I have to say my wanderings around the galaxy means I don't get to see too many of the group! I visited Lave just to say I'd been, now I am about 200 light years away from there. I like to get around! Quick update, I have just managed to buy a Cobra! NOW I feel like I'm home, back in my trusty Cobra. The bad news is the acceleration was a little quicker than I expected and my first launch in my new Cobra ending up with it destroyed! 20k paid out in Insurance leaving my with just 1,000 credits! 24 tons of cargo space and unable to fill it! Oh well, serves me right for being too heavy on the accelerator!
Now I am in a ship I can be happy with I can start to invest in it and improve the weaponry etc. Quick question , I still have my original Sidewinder stored, if I choose to can I sell it or do you only get the option to sell when buying a new ship?

You can "sell it" but as the original sidewinder is free you won't get any money unless you upgraded a component.

The rule of thumbs is before you sell any ship go in to outfitting and downgrades or sell any components you can on the ship. Ships lose like 15% of their value when you sell them but components don't lose value. By selling the internals before you sell the ship you don't lose as much money on the sale.

these days a lot of players buy sidewinders and leave them at stations to mark trade routes or areas of interest as stations which have a ship in them show up on the map really easy. It's like a 32k bookmark :)
