bit-tech review

I have to lol at 94%

I mean, I know some fanboys here that wouldn't give ED 94% - hell, they have ED fans on their comments asking how they came up with 94%

It definitely doesn't sound like a 94% game at the moment - sounds like there's a lot of work the technical side needs, especially servers dropping out all the time.

well, with some of the 10/10 offerings that the gaming industry has produced in recent years... i think ED is a masterpiece by comparison :D

Still great to see some reviewers talking about features and actual gameplay experience rather than having a typical grumpy pants approach

This is a very valid point. As much as I love this game I scoff at it getting a 94% in its current state. Maybe a 94% in terms of potential, as I see the game right now its an amazing engine that they could potentially make an absolute masterpiece out of with time and added content, but its definitely not a 94% as a finished product.

For my taste 94% is about 15% too much.

I enjoy the game, no doubt about it, but a "fanboi" like me would expect much more from a 94% game than ED delivers at the moment.

He's utterly right about those sounds... those juicy sounds!

Them sounds surround you and immerse you in the game. They make chucking your spaceship around the stars even more brilliant.

I think they have their numbers wrong..

They gave it 94%, but mentioned that it only had 100 billion star systems.

Have to agree and I've posted to Rick why I think 94% is too much. I've been on Bit-gamer many years and I'm surprised he got so carried away, he's usually spot on.

The reviewer responded:

Hi folks,

A quick note regarding the score.

Up to the following line of the review, I'd agree that Elite is, to put it in such crude numerical terms, around an 80.

Taking all of the above into account, Elite Dangerous is a darned enjoyable space simulator.

Everything after that is line is my personal reasoning for the much higher final mark, the feelings it brought about in me that I believe make it more than the sum of its parts.

Just wanted to make that clear.

I guess it depends on how you approach it. If you want an enjoyable 'romp about the galaxy in a spaceship' kind of game, it delivers big time. If you want something with epic storylines or campaigns, or MMO interaction and world building, then it's not there yet. As always YMMV.

My favorite line of the entire review is near the beginning...

...expecting the player to learn from experience and experimentation. And death. Sudden, dramatic, frequently embarrassing death.

Yup, that's a game in the Elite franchise all right! :)

To BitTech's credit, they did mention one of FD's broken promises. But the review reads like a brochure written by someone that really didn't play the game much. More pictures than text, and not much meant in his text. The review does nothing to intelligently inform others about the game or what makes it worth a high score.

No analysis of trading, mining, exploration, ships (except for Anaconda) are just a few glaring omissions in the review. Yet he felt compelled to mention how awesome the cockpit looks. Really?

And then he gives it a big fat 94%. What a garbage review.

Don't worry terminatahx, Im sure eventually the game will get a bad score from some obscure review site of no import and you will not feel so lonely out there on your limb.
