Bitmaps why?

Why are screenshots saved as bitmaps?
I hate them.
Big clunky file format.
Can we have an option to save as jpeg, png, whatever?

Options are good.

Probably to save processing time for the high-resolution screen captures.

Anyway, I agree. Options would be nice, and failing that, PNG should be the default. As it stands, I use a third party program to grab screenshots.

EDDiscovery allows for background conversion of screenshots to a number of different formats, if you are running that it can convert them and keep the original high quality ones or delete the originals. I use it for converting all my screenshots for uploading to the net.

I use Steam's screenshot function for screenshots. Works well enough.

If you have an Nvidia Geforce Graphics card they tend to have software that records or take photos.

I don't mind starting with uncompressed data formats and converting as needed. Helps me save on some of the clutter too where I otherwise might not clear out the folder.

Just get GIMP or something for those 16K pics. Paint doesn't seem to be too fond of them, at least in Windows 7.

PNG is still lossless and can be converted just as easily as bitmaps, while only taking about half the space.

It also records a lot more stuff in the background and transmits it to nvidia.

While work arounds aren't an ideal solution, what I use is Elite Dangerous Market Connector with the screen shot add on. It auto converts the bmps to pngs in a folder of my choosing. Totally transparent.
