Bitten by the exploration bug?

Hi all,

Ii did my first exploration trip to Eta Carinae last year. When I arrived back in the bubble, I felt this itch to go back out so in December I decided to pay a visit to Sag A*. Once there I decided to extend my trip to visit Colonia. I had plotted a course back to the bubble at this stage, only to scrap it and go the Beagle point. Now I am going towards Silentium Shores instead of a direct way home. Somehow I keep getting side tracked and everytime I think about plotting a way back home, I find another amazing sight and go on..

I left in December and kind of realized today that I will be out here for half a year very soon..

It is tedious at times and my ship has a few scratches by now from stupid errors on my side (yes it was late at night, I was tired..now I have reminders up for myself to tell me it is always a good idea to go out of supercruise before repairing thrusters *cough*, check gravity before landing on a planet etc. )

thankfully my ASP seems to be of the sturdy kind and is still holding up.

Sometimes I miss the bubble but I always keep going..on to the next star.

Will this ever end? Is there any cure for this?

The only thing that really annoys me is that i dont meet any other players out here :(

True explorers are explorers by heart. Theres no cure, its no disease. Just go where you wish and fulfill your desires. ;)

Congratulations, you've been successfully diagnosed!

Fun fact: I caught the bug way back on the same trip out to Eta Carinae.

Currently still not back home from DWE, coming up on 17 months now...

What a shame. A few days ago I was in 'Ishtums Reach' and I saw you on EDSM. I thought about sending you a friends request, but after I got declined before I did not do it. Perhaps other explorers are afraid of my ship. lol

To all the explorers out there : 'I am not Octavia Quinton. Octavia Quinton is dead.' At least I hope so. lol

Now I am on the way back home (Colonia).

It would be great if we could send a short message with the friends request.

Perhaps another time, Athrana.

Fly/land safe.

I'm on my way in my first exploration trip to Orion. Very relaxing way of playing this game ! no stress, no pressure.
I'm exploring in open, and each jump, I don't know what to expect, and always hope to meet another explorer in the same system as me. It's exciting ! :)

It never ends. If you make it back to inhabited space, you will quickly find excuses to head back out. Im currently approaching Colonia at economical route, since going faster would only mean that I would have to head back out again :) At the current speed of 3-500 ly per day i should reach it in 15 days or so, I hope. Only 9k ly left :)

You know I did a 1 month trip out of the bubble and accidentally blew myself up facing a Neutron Star and walking away for a short time. Said screw it, and started all over and went straight back out with no plan. A year later I eventually saw the Great Annihilator and Sag A* without even planning on doing it (and using economical routes because I didn't even know you could filter and use other methods). Finally got back to the bubble and made a killing and got up to about 38% Pioneer Status for Exploration just for that.

Said that was it, had my fun now time to get Horizons and do engineers and combat and other parts of the game. Ended up getting all my ships G5 upgraded and set and then thought I'll just cruise local Nebulas and do passenger missions to get to Elite. So took my same Asp (now totally engineered) out as my first exploration trip and hit the Liberty Nebula, then went a bit further then wanted to check out a nebula near Dryeoa Blao sectors and then boom figure I'll go to Colonia. Still not there and now heading the opposite direction from it and on the other side of the core and heading towards Beagle Point direction.

So yes, it is like the travel bug. I'm doing it a second time, thinking I never would go far the very first time. But good thing is with star filtering and fastest routes and a 48.62LY (52.94LY) jump range it's taking me a fraction of the time it took me before and looks like I'm not heading back to civilization anytime soon

Enjoy the ride and maybe you'll decide to not stop after you reach your goals you set out in exploration too. I think it's one of the funnest things in the game to do actually...
