Bizarre annoyance

This is really, really small in the scheme of things. I mean quantum mechanics small. But it's annoying me, or at least needling my OCD tendencies.

When I watch the alpha player load the game a rotating sidewinder appears in orange outline. That's great, reminiscent of the original Elite. BUT and here it comes...

The "roof" seems to be solid right to the front where it joins the cockpit glass, the same strut that the two little side panel thingies join.

"Huh?" I hear everyone say.

Well, when you then sit in the cockpit the roof you can see is transparent, as far back as the door behind the pilot (which isn't far enough back to be the door-like thingy you can see at the back of the sidewinder, and it doesn't have a the triangular bit in it on the orange one's roof).

Now, on the blueprints the sidewinder has a neat little divide so you can see the end of the transparent section of the roof, so this isn't from there. Or it is, but has been messed with just to needle me.

Watching the alpha I can't tell if that section of roof can be seen through on another's sidewinder.

I've typed all that, and feel a lot better. In the list of things to do it's pretty low down, but can I make a tiny plea that it's sorted? It's driving me nuts, pathetic as that sounds.

so glad you only noticed that, because if you had noticed that other little thing, then OCD would be the least of your worries

I wish I was English like my hero Tj.
"Huh?" I say. ;)

Lol! I really cannot picture what you're talking about.... Hmm.

Have another drink, my good man. Don't worry about it. :D

Yep the loading screen is not rendered real time it is a video clip. Apparently it can be found in one of the game folders.

FD probably used an earlier model when they made the video a while back. I assume this will be replaced with a real time model of the ship you currently own in the final release.

And well I hope that in the commercial version, we shall have spaceships in real rotation and with the color like in FE2. It is a another esthetics than this horrible thing with of lines of orange color. This is really impersonal.

Yaffle you are correct, they are inconsistent. However in the scheme of things this will be low on the list to fix, so you will have to endure for a while.

In the mean time just keep your self happy imagining how pretty the python will look!

Frankly, when I look at this orange thing in a pseudo rotation, it's really disappointing. In FE2, the spaceships are full, colorful and rotational movements are going in all directions, left / right / up / down. Really dynamic and nice looking. I really hope that Frontier is going to remove this horrible orange thing, which is unworthy of a game like ED.

Ok on the subject of small things that you notice but you don't really consider particularly important but you would probably do something about if you were the programmer.

I have noticed grey lines vertical down the sides and horizontal close to the cockpit struts.

They look a bit like compass points but they kind of blur when you start moving..

What are they and are they supposed to serve some kind of purpose?

I should add I really like everything else about the cockpit design seems to really make sense.

They are movement indicators and travel up/down etc. depending on the ships movement in space. I think it is to give your brain something else to hook on when doing rapid manoeuvres so you can work out what is going on.

I don't really mind it, a kind of blueprint look slightly on the wireframe side of things as well :)

Thanks I suspected as much - I tend to get that more from the small specs that come and go in space.
