Black box exploration data.

When an explorer gets destroyed, a black box should spawn at the site. This box should be persistent for a couple days. The value of the box should be proportional to the exp scan value of the ship. The pirate could collect and sell the data or the explorer could return and retrieve the box.

I found myself wanting to support your idea, but I've been in this game too long to know how FDev thinks; your logical idea will be weighed against an ultimate outcome for FDev..

I agree that explorers will cry about griefers even more, but this is titled Elite Dangerous right? Where is the danger for an explorer?

I think the black box should actually include the data - selling it to Universal Cartographics should give the seller credit for discoveries. Make exploration a more cut-throat play style. It also has the benefit of making piracy of explorers make some role-playing sense; if FDev isn't going to do anything to reduce senseless griefing, they can at least address the damage to disbelief suspension of murder hobos targeting explorers.

This, however, is a bad take. The galaxy is plenty dangerous.

I agree that the explorer should get the discovered tag, but whoever sells it to black market or legit cartographies should get the credits.

I see just one problem with your idea.

The game is instance P2P based and always has, there isnt a central server to persist it to.

Then As a bounty hunter or trader if I die I should have the same rights.

Please note the only real danger in explorations is yourself.
