Here is a little tip.... Collect the black box... but DONT rush back to deliver it.
Keep checking out every USS (you will be surprised how many black boxes are thrown at you) - the system seems to keep going thinking you have not finished yet.
You can sell these at the black market for a tidy little sum (remember to hand over the mission one 1st).... (just keep an eye on the time)

This is definitely good advice. "Recover x" missions often grant you a salvage licence for goods of type x in the target system, so the items will appear in your HUD as Legal Salvage and you will have no problem with scans after picking them up. If you keep collecting in the system all the type x items will be legal and you can come back with a hold full that can be sold without risk.

I too flew around forever finding no black box until I started flying near planets with space stations on them, then the exact and obvious USS appeared.
