Newcomer / Intro Black Box Xeno mission help

So I'm cruising around and I get a text message from the base asking if I can do them a favour and have a look for a black box from one of their ships that got nuked by something weird. It takes me an hour or so to find where I'm going, the source finally pops up, and it tells me that its a level 8 threat and I should likely go home.

Well, screw going home.... I head there and with great fear I did drop out of supercruise. Now here I am in a cloud of green gas, with the scattered remains of some unlucky star troopers ride all around me... ...but no black box, and no aliens.

What am I supposed to do now?

That's an interesting mission. I'm jealous. I never got such a request. :(

Did the inbox message allow you to accept the mission? Or was it just a message like the tip-offs we sometimes get from mysterious strangers? If you have accepted a proper mission and it shows in your transaction tab (and is not timed out by now) you could simply try again. Go back to supercruise and drop into the appropriate signal source again.

Pic of the mission text pls! Most likely you are just confusd about where a BB mission has sent you ... but I now dream of a Xeno BB mission :)

Hey, sorry for the slow response...! As Krieger suggested I logged back in, went back to the source and dropped in again and this time there was a black box hanging around amongst the wreckage. I scooped it up but didn't see anyone (or anything) at all... Just green gas clouds. ...probably for the best. I'm out near Maia. Came here for Meta Alloy and got distracted by missions.

The message came through to the comms thing at the top of my HUD and I could accept or decline it. I'm away until Thursday but will check the message again once I'm back. o7
