Black Friday and Horizons Purcahse

Hey, I was thinking of buying ED + Horizons as a prezzie for a friend. Problem is, Im not quite sure what I need to buy, to get them the "Game"

Would I have to buy Elite Dangerous + Horizons, which right now would be a total cost of $9.99 + £39.99 = £49.98

Or would he just need Horizons?

If the £10 discount on Horizons for existing players is still available then buying E: D then buying Horizons separately afterwards should (theoretically) cost the same as Horizons by itself. It would have the added benefit of access to the Cobra Mk IV and the freebie paint-jobs announced last night for existing players who upgrade to Horizons.

With a little difference , if you buy the original elite dangerous 9.99£ + buy horizon with the 10£ discount well.... you will access the game before horizon is released, but if you buy only horizon for the same price you'll have to wait the official release of horizon

Just made the purchase. Horizons Pre only @ £39.99. I think I was not given the discount, as I am a founder backer, and this purchase was a gift i.e. NOT for my use (I dont need it as I have the unlimited pass).

It is still available as of a few minutes ago. I bought a Horizons gift copy for myself, but the discount was not applied. Ticket open, will report their response.

From Store Support:

"Thanks for getting in touch. Unfortunately loyalty discounts do not apply to gifts regardless of where they're being sent to."

I understand I'm not typical in that this is the third copy of Horizons I've bought for myself, However, there is no caveat on the Horizons pre-order page except:

"For a limited time all existing Elite Dangerous players will receive a £10 loyalty discount plus the exclusive Cobra Mark IV ship when ordering the Elite Dangerous: Horizons through the Frontier Store. Discount will be automatically applied at checkout. "

I did order this while logged into my account, I am an existing E: D player and there is nothing that says it should not apply to gifts. I have to have the new Horizons copy associated with a unique email to logon to the game so I gifted it to another email I control.

The money is of no concern, it's just erroneous advertising to me.

What I did was to buy 2x 20€ gift cards, send them to my friend and he can use them with his frontier account to purchase horizons. That way your friend should get the discount. Btw, you have to buy the gift cards separately in two purchases, which isn't a problem though.

Well, I caved in. I'm actually ashamed of myself. I had a terrible day yesterday, and so I wanted to make myself feel better by buying something I hope to enjoy.

Now I'm angry with myself for doing this - not that "Horizons will be bad" or something (that's a whole different topic full of both hopes and worries), but because this kind of shopping when down is just dangerous. :|

It depends how you want to buy it.

If you can actually buy the product (no gift) you can get it all for 40 and the MK IV on top.

You first buy ED for 10 bucks. After that pre-order Horizons for 40 bucks. But since you own ED you get a 10 buck loyalty discount. So you have ED + Horizons for the price of Horizons.

You'd need to do it under his account though.

You don't need ED for Horizons. But if you do it this way round you are a S1 player and therefore get the Cobra MK IV once Horizons comes out and you can play right away and don't have to wait for Horizons to be released.

I don't think this works with gift cards.

But I'd contact support before trying this or you might waste 10 bucks because I gave you a foul advise ;-)

Otherwise...yes. 9 bucks ED + 39 bucks Horizons to play it now and get the bonus stuff. 39 bucks if you can wait for the release and don't mind the bonus.
