Black hole filtering?

Hi fellow Explorers,

I am currently 8klys from the Sag A, undertaking the pilgrimage inward bound within my trusty ASP for the first time.

For the last 2kly I have been doing the Neutron Star shuffle on my way in to the centre, filtering the Galaxy map stars with only the 'Non Sequence Stars' showing.

To help spice things up a bit I have been trying to do a 'Black hole Shuffle' with only jumping to back holes but I'm having trouble identifying them with any consistant regularity. I am currently 1100lys below the galatic plane so I am in the thick of the fields....

Currently I just search through all the non sequence stars until I find one....is there a more efficient filter I could use to just show the desired Black Holes?

Cheers,

It's easy enough as it is.

Just make sure you can see the "Info" panel on the left, and when you hover your mouse of a non sequence star, it'll tell you if it's a neutron or a black hole - along with the other star types in the system...

When I view the map, the mouse hover is often not as responsive as I'd like it to be. To find black holes, I often switch to the "realistic" view for a short moment. The black holes show up as perfectly black tiny circles in fron of the not-quite black background. This will work when zomming the map in to view only a small patch of neutron stars.

This way of filtering is not quite easy to use when there are a lot of stars besides the neutron ones because the realistic view does not use the map filter. I had to practice a bit to keep myself focused on all the gray circles I see in the map view for just long enough to see if any of them suddenly go dark while ignoring all the bright lights which suddenly pop up from nowhere. Near the core, where the background is relatively bright, it is actually quite easy to spot black holes that are outside the scope of my zoomed in patch. I use those when my neutron patch has no black holes -- although they are rather difficult to hover / click.

I admit that this takes rather a lot of self-hypnotizing and (black) coffee to work.

Theres no specific filter, they removed it to make it more difficult.

If you go onto the third tab and select "Star Class" and uncheck all the boxes you will just be left with Neutron stars and Black holes. Both pretty valuable so its a nice way to do it.

thanks for all the feedback and suggestions.
I have been using the info panel to check out the star types with some success, but will give the realistic view a try today and see how that progresses.

Am I right in thinking the only thing that is hard to find is giant class stars? I believe in realistic view they often actually appear bigger, but from the map view is there any means of differentiating them? The only one I've found is when the secondary stars are in the "wrong" order (so a M before a G for example).

I submitted a region to the Galactic Cartographic Mapping Project.

Simply put, there's a place where black holes outnumber neutron stars by a large margin on the far side of SagA*.

I'd like to be able to plot waypoints by star type only. I've suggested it to FD and it's not a bad idea, so hopefully something like it will come into the game when exploration gets the love it is due.
