Black Hole?

I am getting ready to head out on an expedition and was hoping to find a black hole or two. Any advice on finding them? Should I search around dark regions? Or should I just google known black holes and head to their systems?

There are plenty of black holes in the game. I think there have been a few screenshot of one of those thats near the core systems (MINTAKA)
Just by scrolling around in the galaxy map I've found a whole bunch, but they are all very remote.. (Near the center of the galaxy.. so you know.. 25,000 ly away)
The black hole itself appears as a black sphere in the galaxy map so you can actually spot them...and system description will say "black hole".

There's a couple that are within 400-600LY I believe.

HIP 28711 is 354LYs away from Eranin. Bring an advanced discovery scanner (the most expensive one) Because the black hole orbits the main star at crazy distances.

I found one on my last exploring trip. Visited 90ish systems, so they are not common, but this one is around 900 LY's from Sol.

Looking up known black holes will work but none of them are close to Sol. The closest real life black hole in the game is V1357 Cygni ahich is 2000 Ly away (and incidentally in the wrong place as it should be 6000 Ly away).

You can find a very nice system deep within the Pleiades Nebula called 'MAIA' You will find a bunch of stars and a blackhole. Awesome background scenery from the Nebula

Conveniently, Pleiades Nebula is the first stop on my trip. I'll swing by on my way out there.

Thanks for the replies, everyone. I didn't realize you could spot them from the Galaxy Map. Gonna go check it out now :)

They're pretty cool, from what I've seen of them on YouTube. Love the Lensing effect around them. Apparently a NASA scientist said that the Lensing effect was quite an accurate representation of what you might see near a Black Hole. :) You know the Wormhole in the film Interstellar is what you sort of see in ED. Although if they had a similar visual effect as the Gargantua black hole in the film that would be awesome too. ;)

I think there is one at Beta Hydrae (spelling unknown . . . NOT hydri though) . . . only a few hundred ly from Aulin . . .

This is from memory sorry . . .

Jigsaw is correct just make sure your map is set to realistic :D

Owain! is this right m8, because surely everything else should be orbiting the blackhole!!

Well I think they might be a binary pair. The star there is a huge blue Class O star. The black hole there isn't very big in terms of solar mass I believe! When you jump in you'll jump to the Class O star. I've been there before.

Look for (larger) blue star symbols on the galactic map. They often contain neutron stars or black holes.

Thanks thats what I was looking for, a way to hunt for them.

I'm one hop away from Maia now. I'm stuck in HIP 17692 exploring. What an awesome system. I found a moon with carbon and water based life, and it says "Would be a suitable candidate for terraforming." Thats pretty exciting.

wow!!! decent think it was possible for even one of those supermassive stars

i'm currently scanning the couple of dozen systems within NGC 7822 nebula. so far i've found 6 OR SEVEN BLACK HOLES - AND A WHOLE LOT MORE
