Black holes and neutron stars

Since we can explore, will these be in the game and have an influence on our game?

Would be very cool to see a fast spinning pulsar or a black hole stripping away the outer layers of a massive blue giant.

There are definitely black holes in the game ("Economy: Unknown"). Somebody's found LGM-1 which is a real neutron star. I haven't found any procedural generated neutron stars but I'd be surprised if they're not in.

I am constantly amused by the amount of 'want to be explorers' who post up on the forums asking whats going to be in the game.

Isn't the point of exploration (ok, i cant resit) 'To Boldly Go' into the unknown, to find out whats out there.

Sure, but it would be nice to know that certain goals are at least achievable in principal before spending what might be a lot of time travelling in vain?

'Boldly' doesn't mean deliberately ignoring helpful information. There is absolutely no reason why someone setting off into unmapped territory wouldn't want to know what phenomena had been previously discovered or rumoured. Did Roald Amundsen put his fingers in his ears and shout 'blah, blah, blah' when people talked about the possibility of the Northwest passage? Of course you might consider him a 'want to be explorer'.

For some perhaps. But a great many explorers are seeking something which they either know is out there somewhere, or strongly suspect it is.

Either way, if there are no black holes, we're in big trouble when the berserker shows up...

I'm guessing they will be there, but I'm hoping there will be more to it gameplay wise than just graphics. Neutron star, so, hmm, maybe Neutronium is a reality substance by then, ready for advanced miners to harvest? Somehow? Such systems would be fairly sparse and hard to reach, with "nothing" in them, risky as hell, but pay off well. Maybe used to create exotic materials or new generation of military/exploration drives or something.

I don't know, just tossing out wild ideas here, that may be too far fetched to swallow. If only graphics, then I'd prefer them spend that time on more important gameplay bound features.

I said it in another thread, it should be reasonable to have an in-game catalog of astronomical phenomenon of interest based on visual analysis.

Perhaps an astronomical society will pay a mission fee for in-system data collection. It would be a good mission thread.
