Black Holes... as a way to jump between Sectors of the Galaxy

Haters gonna hate, but it would be a great idea if we could use Black Holes as a means of performing large jumps around the Galaxy map, perhaps between sectors.

You could add an element of skill to it, like having to fly your ship a certain way through the black hole

I KNOW you can already get from Sol to Beagle Point in <15 minutes - my current record time is 10 min 12 seconds - but Black Hole jumps would be a great idea to allow people to get around the WHOLE Galaxy and do little bits of exploration without having to waste tons of time, or be stuck away from the bubble for prolonged periods.

Long travels create sense of scale and distances. The feature will break my impressions of the galaxy.

If someone will tell you "trust me, this is very-very far away". These are just meaningless words for you. Untill you make attempt to travel the way.

Agreed. As a compromise, I wouldn't mind if the astrophysical jets of a rare "feeding" black hole gave us, say, five or ten times boost range, depending on how rare they are and if they ever get accretion clouds.

Here's the thing: you DONT HAVE TO USE THEM!

So if you like the sense of long distance/time wasted staring at a blank screen, you explore the current way.

If you are more interested in skill and action, you use the Black Jump Holes!

Ummmm, what?!

please do tell how you managed to do this, considering you would need a ship with a jump range of over 2,000Ly for that time?

I suggested I simular suggestion in a way, not by flying through black holes, as they as you know have enormous amounts of gravity that will crush you. they are not wormholes.

Instead I suggested that skilled pilots can fly around them damaging all modules slightly and 'Hypercharging' the FSD. nothing ground breaking like you suggest, only a 200% boost for a few jumps.

Here another idea. research other topics about Black holes before posting about them. It has already been said Black holes will not be done. by the David Braben, CEO Frontier Developments.

Thing is Due to your lack of research. You could have researched this and found there multiple topics about black holes and skills.

No it a lame idea. Like other lame games like Eve. That has Black holes blocked by PvP. But your lack of research you did not know this. Next time use the Forum Feature Advanced search and type in Blackhole.

Here another thing. Laziness is not a skill. If you want a game of laziness There a bunch that caters to your needs.

Distant Worlds Expedition is meaningless from this point on. Why should i fly for 8 months when i can do it in under 15mins? i'm coming back to bubble. [wacko]

And with this response I will gladly provide some help for OP....

Maybe they are thinking it backwards. The Op debating for 10 Minutes 15 minutes to self destruct at Bagle point back to Sol.
I was thinking that too, but that's not even 2-3 minutes though. The time for countdown, and then rebuy screen. OP must be thinking of something else, but not sure what.

I would kinda enjoy something like this, but I also do not think that it should be that much better than what's already available, for reasons that already been mentioned. (Sense of scale etc.)

And the way I see it, it should require quite a high amount of skill, they are black holes after all!

The way I would see this working is some kind of complex and highly risky slingshot maneuver where you might have to try to stay on a course plotted by your computer, so that your 'exit point' works for the jump your attempting to make. This would of course need serious drawbacks (also previously mentioned. eg module damage)

Could add an extra layer of depth and danger to exploration if Frontier do indeed decide to develop black holes....

First, stop instantly labeling anyone who would disagree with you as 'haters' it starts off discussions in a bad view.

That said, no, you cannot get that far in under 15 minutes, so yeah, video proof? because that simply isn't true.
And no why would there be a need to go that far fast? there is zero point in getting that far, all you'd end up doing is creating a few 'starting' points for explorers, at best, which really seems pointless because exploration is often found in going over many many many systems to find the good ones rather then getting to x fast.

I am fine with it, as long as it requires a specific device and you don't know where the black hole leads to unless you go through it. This adds a risky element to it. For all you know, you could get displaced to 30kLy from your original destination.

But all a black hole is, is an incredibly dense accretion of matter. It doesn't have any properties that a really large planet wouldn't have, it's just that a really large planet would collapse into a black hole under its own gravity (technically it'd be a really large star, but you get my point).

Nobody's claiming that Elite is a factually accurate representation of the future, but it has a lot of cutting-edge, real world, scientific knowledge in it. And black holes just aren't magic portals, sorry.
