Black Holes?

I am just new to the forum, so it could be that my question is not really original? Nevertheless, will there be black holes in the Elite Dangerous Univers we can fly into? Would be cool?

Would be odd to claim to recreate the Milky Way (or any kind of real galaxy really) and not have black holes. If they're there I suspect you'll be able to fly in to them though I suppose there is a definite possibility that our ships might be to smart to allow us to do that.

As for cool. Don't know about that. But sure, if flying in to massive stupendously dense stellar bodies is your thing then sure, go for it. You'll be ripped apart by gravitational forces before you hit the 'hole' but your know... If that's what you want to do :D

I do hope that the devs and FD do their research about black holes before putting them in though. (CIG were about to put in a black hole in Star Citizen that was slowly consuming the planets that had survived the super-nova and were still orbiting it, fortunately some smart people in the community pointed out that's just not the way it works.)

The normal procedure when approaching a black hole is to turn around. Or else you will be the thinnest string of particles ever, for what short time you have left in the visible universe. Not that it matters, since you will already be quite dead.

It would indeed be great to not go near those!

I watched a program a while back that said for supermassive black holes you might survive the journey through the event horizon. Ultimately death would follow but it was some difference in its gravity well so that you wouldn't get pulled to pieces before you met the event horizon.

Aye.. the supermassive blackholes you could potentially freefall into, because of the lower tidal forces which are spread out over a larger distance.

Thought once you enter the hole you will get backed and cooked into a crisp in a matter of miliseconds :D

So now we all know that black holes, large or small, are not toys and should not be trifled with. At least not if you want to play Iron Man mode anyway! :)

Fly into? No no no, you don't want to be doing a silly thing like that!

One of the more fun mission sequences in Warhead was discovering and escaping from a Black Hole then using it to destroy an alien ship. Hopefully there'll be some Black Hole related missions.

oh my god.. i love that game so much me too.

that point in the game was absolutely brilliant.

Darn it!....and here was me thinking one of 'em might be a quick shortcut to another galaxy in the Elite Universe...eventually, sheesh!...wadda letdown! :(

(No...not really, just jokin' :D)

There was a previous thread on this: PBF I'm afraid.

Of course as far as we know now, entering a black hole would be 'very bad' (but this is an unrealistic game, remember), so although it should usually kill you, it might also provide the opportunity for a large random jump (with damage of course), getting stuck in witchspace, maybe getting flung back to a previous "save" (time travel) or an alternative "strange" event.

At the very least, it should invalidate your ship insurance, cheap or otherwise. :D

Darker Sci-Fi for kids, is such an under-appreciated genre. It was love at first sight back in ye olde days. Never got into unicorns and faeries. But scary robots completely forgetting the three Laws of Robotics? Oh yeah! :)

It would be cool to have Black Holes, just to be able to brag about having them. No mistake. Just not overly adventurous. Must be all those scary movies... ;)
