Black Market on System Map - Immersion breaking!

Would the easiest solution to this just to add something to the game options to show / hide Station Facilities? (Short Term Fix)
Set the default to "show" so as to help new players learn, "hide" for those who have a more exploratory nature.
And should this only relate to Black Markets? (For those arguing the Immersion thing)
If you have never been there before, there should be no information at all unless you pay for it so I'd agree with previous comments pertaining to this.

How about a nice icon on the galaxy map showing Black Markets that you've discovered and traded at yourself. A bit like the ship icons that show where you have ships based?

Now, it just seems like you're tailoring the game to your own evil, smuggling agenda. :D
Back in the day when things weren't so user friendly, we had to engage the memory side of our brains, or take notes...

I'd think "clutter" might be a reason because next it would be Shipyards etc. etc....and sure they could put in place an adjustable "Legend" menu like they have for the Trade currently (icons instead of goods flow) but it seems a lot of work for something which isn't really that big a deal. It may also over complicate things for players as too much is not always such a good thing, especially for new players.
They just got the Galaxy map back to legible to be fair.

Once you know where they are, that information should always be available kinda like it is now.
Is an Icon really necessary?

Just going with what's already in the game. It was the ship thing that gave me the idea. Sadly we don't have sticky notes we can put on the map :( My monitor is covered in post-its)

You're points are certainly valid.

An no-one would want to see a screen full of icons for Rares, Black Holes and so on. It would be a mess but done right it would be just fine. Say check boxes the same way you use for trade routes etc.

I think another reason that they stuck the black markets on the map was to give something to pirates (especially those who couldn't be bothered to find a black market them selves and just wanted to do PvP and wave an I'm not a pain in the bottom flag, Im arr Poirat. No offence to the decent Pirates who managed to do it themselves)

I agree that black markets shouldn't be on the Galaxy Map. Anarchies should always have one, but any others should be discovered.

And it shouldn't be enough to just visit a station. I'd associate black markets with minor outlaw factions. So you need positive rep with, say The LT433 Camorra, and then you can access their black markets. The higher your rep with that faction, the more items you can buy there.

There were some good suggestions here: https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showthread.php?t=160310

Is cool, I still like the idea of it being optional info. We agree on the Icon thing but again, is it too much for new players to adapt to? Experienced players will be familiar enough but the new guys will struggle to cope. One bad setting and they'll be confused forever and may quit out of frustration because not everyone forums.

New players need to know of BM's existence because there are a lot of things a new player has to get their head around just to complete the most basic of missions. And what do with that extra Rebel Transmission they picked up etc? They are an important part of the game, much like shipyards.
So, the removal of Black Markets altogether from sight is prolly a no-no.
But I would almost like there to be "training wheel" settings which can be removed as a player wishes to further challenge themselves. After all, it's the player who plays the game the way they want to play it so there should always be options to accommodate this. This would also allow experienced players to get away from things FD create to try and make life for the new players that much easier. And also keep players like yourself happy too.

On a side note: there will always be players who easy mode games but that's just something we all have to live with I guess.

One does not Pirate.
That is all I have to say regarding that.
I think it was done because it was confusing new players who couldn't find them. They weren't aware they might be there because the game was telling them there wasn't one...

+1 for Ben's OP.

A "good" smuggler should know more than just how to get in and out of stations. They should have an extensive underground network, represented by the black markets marked on their own map, having taken the time and effort to discover them.

But unfortunately, it's not working like that. As it is, every player has all the criminal connections in the galaxy at their fingertips from the start. Something's not right there :(

For those who want it easy to find a guaranteed black market: any station in any of Archon Delaine's control systems.

We already have private information about each system per player, i.e. whether you have the exploration or trade data for a given system. You can either buy that data or go there and explore the system and it's trade market data.

Couldn't the BM work in a similar manner? e.g.
- to 'discover' a BM in a system perhaps you would have to pay a BM informant on a neighbouring system.
- or perhaps smuggling missions or other nefarious activities at a station would open up the BM contact for you.
- or maybe new missions to open contact with the criminal elements in another other systems.
- obviously this would mean that new players would need to be given a free or very easy-to-access BM in the first place.
- more lucrative BM could be scaled in 'cost' to discover, e.g. a very wealthy system with a need for recreational drugs would be more costly to access then some fiddling little outpost.

Just some random thoughts.

Shows how much I have been looking at new features, as never noticed that every single black market on system maps :/

But yes I agree should only come up on systems you have been too.

Also if you wanted to be a bit more realistic, then from time to time black markets should be shut down or raided. Depending on which faction runs system or station/outpost.

Agreed! ..and +1 for Zen ;)
