Black Market

Is there any chance of being discovered by police and fined when you sell items on the black market? I remember this from the earlier games but in ED to date I have never seen this happen. I liked it because there was always the feeling of risk there. Now though seems there is no risk invo0lved at all other than getting scanned when you enter the station/base. One of those little things in the game that could do with some extra thought just to make it a bit more interesting. I wish you could communicate with dodgy parties and negotiate as well - maybe in the future.

No, there is absolutely no risk involved once you avoided the security ships scans. Nothing like the undercover cover cops running the 'Joe's Honest Goods' or anything.

No cops asking you for the first letter of the third paragraph from page 58 in the manual or else you're thrown in jail either [wink]

If you get scanned and you're carrying illegal goods, you will get fined.
If you pull the trigger and discharge a firearm within the no shoot zone...best turn tale and run, or, stand an be minced.

You won't be fined once you are in in station.

as a work-around, get wanted where you smuggle ... the only way to spice things up.

and smuggle to military outposts.

unfortunately the only risk is fines and reputation loss otherwise.

A market is a place where things are BOUGHT and sold
I would like to see some goods (mats, commodities, modules, second hand modules, experimental modules) for sale in black market

Yes, the Black Market needs spicing up .... illegal goods to buy from a dodgy-looking NPC .... (oh they are all dodgy-looking lol) ... but we've asked for this for a long time now, so surely it's creeping towards the top of the FD list ? Please?

I'm hoping the black market becomes a lot more fleshed out once ambulation becomes a thing. I'd like an actual black market, where you can buy dodgy stuff, sell illegal goods, and take shady missions.

Hard to believe that humanity gave up most of the fun illegal habits of the 20th and 21st centuries and it's with some disappointment that smuggling carries no real risk to it past fines fer being scanned.

Even harder to believe that someone could smuggle in all manner of illegal goods and face only a fine, while the punishment for breaking the speed limit or loitering is instant death. Whoever thought of that one could well be that one guy who wears two different colour socks every day just...because.

The speeding punishment was brought in because of griefing - pilots were deliberately colliding with pilots IN the station at speed to wipe them out. The punishment had to fit the crime.

Yes, but they can only take advantage of that against you if YOU are speeding. If you are at a speed less than 100, as far as I am aware, you are not punishable.

Actually - if the contact pushes you OVER the speed limit, you still get blown up!

Good call!!!!!

Something that for some reason I had not thought of.

How much do you think black market modular terminals would fetch :)

Perhaps this could form the basis of a player to player trading system for Mats and commodoties, with the Black Markets as the intermediaries...

I wasn't aware of that possibility. Neither, I suspect, were a lot of potential griefers ..... but they are now !

Would it be kinetic energy related? Small ship at speed on a larger one .... and large ship giving gentle nudge ?

Edit - no ...forget the response ... way off topic lol

Not wanting to derail my own thread but Ive been speeding loads and never got fined or fired at once. I just thought it was one of those incidental little things that doesnt mean much, I might have to slow down a bit now then. But Ive sped through openings doing smuggling recently whilst on silent running and was not even told off. So is it even working?

Yes it works. SDC had a campaign some time ago where they rammed players. They were "enforcing the speed limit" :O
