Black markets

Can you ever sell on the black market for more than it's worth. For instance in premonition drew talks about selling slaves at cemiess. If I smuggle slaves into somewhere with a black market where they are illegal can I make large profits?

Yep. Blackmarkets work on the same supply and demand as normal markets, if something is in demand, you'll get a good price. They don't advertise though.
You can make an educated guess though. Outbreak gives very good prices for combat stabilisers, wars give good prices for weapons.
edit - and civil unrest gives very good prices for weapons, as I just found out :)

Yes, you can.

Find somewhere that sells the commodity legally with a low price.

Take it to someplace where it is in demand and illegal.

Profit :)

make sure that the station you're going to:

1) has a black market, see system map of station

2) the black market is open, some galactic powers close them down when they move in

i also believe that some systems actually have demand for illegal slaves and other specific illegal stuff, like sothis bubble has missions for it in ceos station

But missions don't use the blackmarket. Not yet anyway. There have been hints of improvements to blackmarkets. Hopefully there will be a contact offering illegal missions, ability to purchase illicit goods and rare goods, and even something building off our personal blackmarket networks.

be happy black markets work now, for a long time they were the pirates booty dumping ground, and nothing more...

I usually find (I did some narcotics testing reasonably recently):

Sell Battle/personal weapons in war/civil war/civilunrest systems where they are illegal (not dictatorships, as they produce), if bought at 1kbelow galavg (industrial dictatorship), gives about 2.5k profit.
Narcotics, Buy in low pop agri/industrialdictatorship/anarchy in a boom state, Sell in high pop extraction no state non dictator/anarchy Delain. I found selling in a boom state actually seemed to lower the price, but YMMV.
imp slaves, buy in Torval, sell inAisling/delaine/Antal.

That said, I came across what looked like a bug where antal dictatorships had their black market closed in an Exploited, not controlled system where there Should be 10%illegal good price increase. Narcotics were illegal there too, which they usually aren't. Hard to take advantage of a 10% price bump if the market is closed!

Imho, "shutting down the black market" is one of the more stupid facettes of the BGS. It's not like the Black Market is an actual market, but more a demand for illegal goods and thus hardly something you can easily shut down. :)
