Black Screen in Vive

All set up.

Tracking works, both in the Steam Tutorial, Vive free games bundles and E: D as I can see the onscreen window showing everything working.

Never had anything other than black in the Headset. I'm going to have to RMA aren't I?
[sad]

Are you running HDMI lead form GPU to breakout box (Not DVI or DP to breakout box)? Have you also checked the headset cables are firmly in the headset sockets?

Headset cables are fine. The Breakout box has a MiniDP to HDMI socket, plugged into the HDMI.

Have read online that it's worth trying the miniDP to miniDP option. My GPU is a reference AMD 295X2 so I don't have a native HDMI out of the card to use. Will try it again tomorrow afternoon when I get home.

Try using the short link box HDMI cable in place of the HDMI part of the 3 in 1 cable, and something else from the link box to the PC. My 3 in 1 HDMI is duff, adds green snow, awaiting RMA.

Ok, so the screen in the headset works.

In an ill judged attempt to hard reset, I tried to take the headset out of direct mode and from that point on no matter what I removed and reinstalled plugging in the vive, killed the main pc display. I tried different ports but nothing.

When the screen did work it decided that the headset was the main display and so I got a small window onto the desktop with no way to see what I was doing on the main screen. I've reluctantly decided do a Windows OS reset and will reinstall everything one by one to see if I can get it going, but at least I know the different bits all work! Just not all at once :(

Sorry, but of this means you have two cards installed with Crossfire, plug the cable into the other card. If not, ignore this.

The Full OS reset and reinstall worked!

I can now see all the problems everyone was talking about, but you know what? I'm flying a space ship!!!!

Welcome aboard, Cmdr!

I spent the evening playing CQC. It's so much easier in VR, it's like trying to shoot the broad side of a bus!

Mistake I make was not going into graphics options and switch 3D settings the first place. I assume you have done this?

Thanks but I'm in.

Also hoping the new AMD drivers that enable CrossFire for Elite can help improve image quality until the graphics weirdness is resolved.
