Black screen when loading/game freezing

Wanted to see if anyone has ideas here...

A couple days ago I was playing and the game locked up while in super cruise. I had to end task and start the game again. Now when I start the game form the launcher I get a black screen for 2-3 min before the game starts loading the intro animation. Once the game loads and I start playing it locks up after a couple minutes of playing and I have to end task.

PC details: MSI Stealth GS75 laptop with RTX 2070 super

This happens with both the steam launched game and the frontier stand alone launcher.
Other games are fine on this laptop and I can play ED on a different PC fine.

Steps I have taken:
uninstall game and delete all folders including in the %appdata% location
Install game to a different ssd
uninstall and reinstall of geforce drivers using the clean install option
unchecked cache check and virtual cache in the launcher options
change all sorts of display settings in elite
disabled geforce game overlay

Nothing is helping. I have opened a ticket with Frontier but who knows how long it will take them to get back to me.

Anyone have any other suggestions? I have been running elite fine on this platform for a couple years. I dont recall any OS or GPU driver updates that happened around the same time.

Find another piece of hardware to play your save. If you get the same issues then it's a problem with your commander and you need support to solve it. If it works fine then the issue is with your laptop. 🤷‍♂️

buy a can of air duster make a screw map unscrew and gently prise open blow out and clean out what dust you can
prey to your god if you have one.........
then screw it back together and retry;)
if still under warrenty forget the above and rma asap
(my suspicion the gpu is overheating or failing when running graphic intense apps like elite)

GPU temps are 77-80, no dust in the heat sinks. Other games run ok and gpu stress test runs fine. It's something with EDO and this laptop. After work I will be sending a dxdiag to frontier support and go from there.

run msi afterburner downclock core clock 50mhz(using the slider) do not save the downclock leave running retry elite to see if that fixes the TDR issue
if it does the gpu is suffring wear and tear imo or is not happy with the current driver
nothing stresses a gpu quite like this game not even some stress testing apps due it having nothing to do then to much in an instant

I removed the geforce drivers and installed one that is a few versions older. Same issue.

I do notice that the first time launching the game after changing the video driver I dont get the black screen for 3 minutes, it goes right into the opening video. It proceeds to build the shader cache and I get to the menu. If I exit and relaunch I then get the 3 min of black.

Donwclocking the gpu didnt help.

Other games I play run fine, MSFS, DCS, NMS, etc. I think MSFS is harder on the graphics card than EDO.

Nothing was fixing the issue. I finally broke down and just did a fresh os install after deleting the partitions on the os drive. EDO seems to be launching ok now. Tomorrow I'll have some time to play and see if it is stable but its a step in the right direction. It had been a couple years since a fresh os install so it was time anyhow.
